Looking forward to the Research Data Alliance Plenary 23 <https://lnkd.in/gP8UVFpW> next week. I won't be travelling there (I'm trying to limit my impact on the planet) but will be joining as many sessions as I can remotely. It will be interesting to see if this 'virtual jetlag' helps in the creation of my annual end of year out of office message <https://lnkd.in/gs9PpXq4>, which is something that usually requires *real* jetlag!

Our opening #ITS session at #GeotabConnect provided valuable snapshots of Altitude’s capabilities and use cases. Shweta Shah and Mike Branch discussed these features, practical ways they can be used and what’s planned for the future. Following those insights, Daniel Lewis highlighted how data is brought to the Altitude platform and what new data science and research initiatives are on the horizon. Are you a Budget 24 data geek? If not, here is a great way to dig into how the money for FY2025 was allocated, created by OrbViz (HT Karim 🌍 Sabet whose team created and alerted me to it. Thanks The Treasury - New Zealand for commissioning it, so good to see efforts to make our Budgets even more transparent and easier to engage with). You can dig into different areas across the top, like I did for Law & Order below, and then choose for example Police. On the left you can see the appropriations since 2020 on a bar chart. And if you click on the bubbles under police, you can see how each category looks. For example, road safety appropriations have fallen from $447m in FY24 to $332 in FY25. The above is one example, you can do this for every area of government. Its a LOT of data, and this visualisation is a great way to be able to work through it (rather than having to work out excel pivot tables and all that jazz). Happy data exploring :) https://lnkd.in/gte8sH7r

Even the fanciest spatial data product with the most potential use, can't be considered the best if it can’t be accessed by relevant audiences and end users. Seamless access to spatial data (products) has been a long standing thorn in the side of the geospatial ecosystem. 🌍 Slowly but surely though, the barriers that prevented the seamless access of spatial data are being broken down! The result? Informed decision making, innovation and synergies within the entire ecosystem! 🙌 Andy Bowyer Watch the full video here: ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/diX_6aiA #SpatialData #DataAccessibility #GeospatialTechnology

A few weeks back we took the NZ Budget 2024/2025 and put an OrbViz spin on it. This was the result... A report that people enjoyed reading because they could actually understand it! 💡 Making complex data not just simple, but accessible, intuitive, and impactful helps to bring the data to life. It makes finding insights easier for the layperson, sparking productive two-way conversations that lead to better decisions See for yourself: https://buff.ly/3XkSCS7 What data would you like to see brought to life in OrbViz? 👇
