Couple of weeks ago, the team was locked in a 'positioning' brainstorm It sparked an idea for a simple framework that maps the tech landscape. So here's a 2 X 2 matrix framework I developed that maps tech innovation and market complexity. 'Deep tech' with its DNA in foundational tech falls in the first half of this quadrant. This framework may be further leveraged for 1. Visualizing how different tech start-ups are positioned 2. Tailoring a GTM playbook thats qaudrant specific 3. Crafting resonant messaging based on innovation type 4. Identifying optimal value creation 5. Innovation approaches Where would you place your company in this matrix? First day of Product Collective's Industry - The Product Conference in the books. Some quick observations and highlights: - A big announcement was made at the end of day 1 - Pendo.io, which a year or two ago bought "Mind the Product", another popular product community and conference, has an agreement in place to acquire Product Collective. Not sure whether the acquisition will ultimately be good or bad for the product community, but certainly I would think there could be concerns about the consolidation of community and questions about what influence Pendo will have on content. In all fairness, Todd Olson, CEO of Pendo, stated very unequivocally that they will have no editorial control over Product Collective and wants to support the product community with greater resources. - Almost every single vendor I saw was touting how they use AI to deliver unique value. I saw one or two examples of what I would consider high leverage use of the technology, but others seemed to be either gratuitous use or just tactically automating tasks we do today. - The speakers on the first day did a nice job with their sessions. The sessions covered topics such as strategy, switching from a managerial to coaching focus as a product leader, strategic use of AI, and a better way to use OKRs to drive business outcomes. I'll post more on individual sessions after the conference once I have a chance to let my thoughts on the session marinate.
