Some of us might be living ‘under the influence’ of our Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) right now and we might not even realize it.
I know from personal experience how childhood adversity can affect every aspect of a person’s health and well-being.
Understanding ACEs can unlock new possibilities for personal and social renewal. For those who witnessed domestic violence as children, learning about ACEs can be a transformative step toward healing and understanding.
Imagine stepping into a space where compassion, understanding, and practical tools are waiting for you.
On October 5th, 19th, and 26th, we're hosting transformative pop-up events designed to support individuals and families who have experienced the trauma and shame of domestic and intimate partner violence.
As someone deeply familiar with childhood adversity, I believe these experiences can serve as powerful catalysts for social renewal and peace.
Growing up witnessing my mother's abusive relationships left scars and opportunities for my self-esteem and personal life. Thanks to the insights from ACEs research, I've been able to transform those challenges into opportunities for growth and renewal.
This October, we are creating a safe space where you can discover hidden strengths and develop the tools necessary for self-compassion, healing, and helping.
Join us for a weekend of transformation and discover the power of healing.
You can learn more in my link in the comments, and please share with anyone who might need this.

Hey there! I know how much you crave these moments of peace—a break from the never ending appointments phone calls and chaos or even just a helping hand around the house.
It’s essential to have someone to listen without judgment, someone who truly understands what you’re going through and sees things the way you do.
Many parents (including me) struggle with the guilt of needing help, especially when it comes to having someone else take care of their kids + if you throw Autism and PDA into the mix, then boy have you got your work cut out for you.
But let me remind you: seeking support and not being able to do all the things all the time doesn’t make you a bad parent. In fact, it shows strength and a desire to be the best version of yourself for your family.
I want you to know those even though things seem impossible by taking one step at a time they are closer than it may seem.
Sometimes all it takes is a little help, some guidance, or a soothing light to show you the way.
That’s where our Neuro-kin community @sunnysteps.family comes in. Our team are neurodivergent affirming and here to provide that understanding and assistance you need to make life easier—without guilt or shame.
Why not reach out and see how we can help you get to where you want to be? You deserve that support and the chance to thrive!

Every voice deserves to be heard, every journey deserves support. Let's empower, uplift, and advocate for inclusive healing
Recently I’ve seen some posts that suggest that individual therapy is only about the individual. As if the whole world revolves around the individual, which may make us even more hyper-individualistic here in the West.
As a client and as a therapist I have a different view on this.
I think that especially when we are affected by early developmental or attachment trauma it will have impacted our capacity for self expression and to be fully ourself in the world.
Parts of us may not be fully developed. We may be living in survival mode, with a nervous system that is highly activated and reactive. And we may feel overwhelmed emotionally.
From this place we can’t find out place in the world or bring our gifts and talents into the world. It may be hard to make meaningful connections with others. And it may be harder to make decisions that are healthy for us and our environment.
This won't only just affect ourselves, but also our families, communities and environment.
And you only have to look into our communities and into the world to see that a lot of what is happening and a lot of our systems are based in trauma.
So, it makes sense for the individual to work through their trauma and feel more connected to themselves and their world. This is much more beneficial for thir own life but also for their families and their communities.
I’d love to hear your view on this.

Great to see Admissions and Compliance experts come together at #AIEC2024 to discuss the importance of supporting mental health at work. The #intled sector continues to face challenge after challenge, with A&C teams often the ones to deliver and enforce the latest legislative and institutional decisions. Remind your colleagues that we’re all human, mistakes can be fixed, it’s okay to ask for help, and, most importantly, we’re saving files, not lives.
Thanks for the thoughtful reflections and impressive mind map, Lucy Blakemore.
A popular session on mental health this morning from a less heard POV - admissions and compliance staff. Beautifully chaired by Hang Nguyen with some frank, funny and direct reflections from panellists Mandy Cilento (Uni SC), Julia Hoon (SCU) and Brenda Lee (Curtin University).
Fascinating discussions on the impact of local and global events, public discourse and everyday challenges working in International Ed. Thank you all!
