Our team had a fantastic information and awareness session with Jared Whitaker last week ⭐ During the session, Jared shared candidly his personal experiences of domestic abuse. Jared utilises his journey to conduct research and write books which promote practical support and advocacy for men facing domestic abuse. We were thankful that Jared then spent additional time with our staff and volunteers, to engage in a Q&A following his insightful talk. We recommend that anyone who works with individuals experiencing abuse or anyone who just wants to learn more to get in contact with Jared. He can design tailored information sessions for any organisation 📢 Jared is hosting a 3-hour workshop on January 17th titled "Understanding and Healing from Domestic Abuse", which takes an even deeper dive into the specifics surrounding men's experiences of domestic abuse. Some of our staff and volunteers are looking forward to attending this session. 💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜 We are honored to support our incredible clients on the front lines of addressing domestic violence. Organizations like the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Prudence Crandall Center, Inc., Interval House, Susan B. Anthony Project, and Women's Resource Center work tirelessly to help survivors escape abuse. DV organizations provide critical resources like emergency shelter, legal advocacy, counseling, and long-term support to help survivors rebuild their lives. However, many of these life-saving programs are at risk due to impending major cuts to VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) funding. Now, more than ever, these organizations need our support to continue their essential work with survivors. Domestic violence impacts individuals and families across every community. Let’s raise awareness, advocate for survivors, and push for the funding and resources needed to break the cycle of abuse. #DVAM2024 #EndDV #SupportSurvivors #NonprofitImpact #BreakTheCycle

I think in the anti slavery sector we really need to be mindful that each survivor of trafficking has a distinct story to tell, shaped by their unique experiences and circumstances. It's crucial to acknowledge that no single survivor can fully encapsulate the diverse range of experiences within the survivor community. By recognising the individuality of each survivor, it honours their resilience, strength, and the complexities of their journey towards healing and recovery. Listening to a variety of survivor voices can provide a more comprehensive understanding of the issue of trafficking and ensure that support and advocacy efforts are inclusive and responsive to the diverse needs of survivors. One voice is never everyone’s voice.
