I hear today is Global TA Day! Who knew?? Here are 5 reflections from my last 2.5 years as a Talent Acquisition professional: 1. Talent Acquisition goes beyond quick hires; it's about creating lasting connections and ensuring employees thrive. One of the most rewarding aspects of recruiting internally is having a front row seat to a new hire's success. Maybe their work-life balance has improved, they finally have a manager who makes them feel supported, or they're doing meaningful work and contributing to something that actually matters to them for the first time. They might not know it, but long after their first day, I remain their biggest fan! 2. We are gatekeepers (the good kind!). "Gatekeeping" has become such a buzzword in the social media world, oftentimes with a negative connotation; but in TA, we safeguard what makes a company exceptional! We are the eyes and ears. We voice concerns when needed and champion outstanding candidates, shaping the organization's success. 3. The #hiringmanager relationship is crucial to a successful hire. I have been blessed to work with some incredible hiring managers at Wayspring! The best partnerships are those where mutual trust is present, where we assume positive intent, and where the door remains open for questions and thought sharing throughout the process. We make each other better! 4. And speaking of relationships, it takes a village! The TA professional doesn't make the hire happen alone. We have to be willing to trust and respect the input of every interviewer. We lean on the HR/onboarding staff to get them from "Offer Accepted" to "First Day" and beyond. We have confidence in our Training/Education teams' ability to prepare our new hires for success. It takes a village to get that quality of hire, and I've got a great village at Wayspring. 5. We don't always get it right. TA is not an exact science. We are working with human beings! But there's always more to learn. There's opportunity to dig deeper next time. You can make changes, while holding space for the things outside of your control. Honestly this made my day... 🎉🙌 I think it's easy to forget that as recruiters we often have the opportunity to make a real impact in people's careers, and I think we're all guilty of occasionally letting those opportunities sail by - but not today! This junior candidate was honestly superb, a real future super-star, however I didn't have the right position for her at the time. What to do? Rather than wave the candidate on their way and tell them "I'd be in touch" at some vague future date, I booked another short call with them and spent some time: 👉 Exploring their professional interests & sharing relevant market knowledge 👉 Providing advice on where to look for roles & how to appeal to her favourite companies 👉 Giving them the space to ask questions, and practice their answers in a safe environment. This candidate absolutely deserved to break into the industry, and sometimes all a person needs is a bit of encouragement and a steer in the right direction to help them on to a meaningful career path! #recruitment

Top 5 life lessons I have learnt after working as a Talent acquisition professional for more than a decade. ✅ Patience: We can’t celebrate just because we have rolled out an offer, we have to wait patiently until the talent joins the firm ✅ Crisis management : In the TA world, candidates declining Offers is inevitable and it’s more challenging if there is a last-minute drop. These moments teach us how to handle uncertainty and the importance of always having a plan B. ✅ Perseverance: There are scenarios where we have to interview/review ample numbers of profiles to hire that one potential talent. During this process, we may get demotivated, and tired but only if we are determined, and focused will be able to achieve our end goal, without giving up. ✅ Networking: The greatest advantage of being a recruiter is we have access to diverse minds and during the conversations, we have an opportunity to build a great network and learn about their struggles, ethics motivations etc. ✅ Negotiation skill: As a human, we negotiate at different instances for various reasons and TA is the best place to pick this skill since we do this day in and day out. Considering Candidates Beyond the Job Description In the quest to build the perfect team, hiring managers / recruiters / TA specialists often encounter candidates who don't check every box but bring valuable transferable skills and experiences. Here are some pros of engaging with such candidates: 1. **Fresh Perspectives**: Candidates from different backgrounds can offer unique insights and innovative solutions that a traditional hire might miss. 2. **Adaptability**: Those with diverse experiences often demonstrate flexibility and the ability to learn new skills quickly. 3. **Broader Skill Sets**: Transferable skills, such as problem-solving, leadership, and communication, are invaluable and can enhance team dynamics. 4. **Diverse Networks**: Individuals from varied industries bring different professional networks, which can open up new opportunities for the organization. Balancing the need for specific skills with the potential of transferable ones is key.
