Expansion is the engine of compounding growth. What’s interesting in the data is that this 35-50% range is the expansion contribution for the average company (based on total growth). But when you look at the top 25th percentile, that number jumps to ~70%. Then there’s the elite 10th percentile—companies whose CSMs are always tracking user behavior like hawks and immediately pouncing on ideal behavior—expansion contribution hits 85%. The elites’ common thread? They decided not to leave easy money on the table.
