Ahead of GCSE results day, Lee Elliot-Major OBE highlights clearly that without English and maths GCSEs, the odds of success are stacked against you. His research highlights it's not just about academic prospects (and all that brings for lifetime earnings) but the impact on health and criminality too. At Action Tutoring we've been tackling the attainment gap for many years through our impactful tuition programmes, targeting those facing disadvantage. Our evidence clearly shows what we do makes a difference, with our pupils far out performing the averages for those facing disadvantage. This isn't just a short term gain to get them their GCSE certificate: it has far reaching lifetime implications and consequences for good. https://lnkd.in/eCC7qNDq #educationpolicy #gcses #socialmobility

We are officially half way through the school year. Where has the time gone? I for one love the rhythm and cycle of the school year. A lot of the students I work will be preparing for mock exams after half term. Others may be deciding on their GCSE options or 6th form options. Lots of decisions to make and not every student will find those choices easy. I think if you already know what you want to do then it's easy. I knew I wanted to study science and probably go to Uni. But having that clarity is rare so the advice I give students is do something you love to do. Not easy at the GCSE level because there are so many subjects you have to do and most students don't love them all. Likewise school holidays should be a time for rest and fun. The brain needs a holiday too and a refreshed student is one that will do better than a tired one. What do you think? #schoolholidays #GCSE #Alevels #education #learning

"Western Governors University...has responded to a nationwide shortage of K-12 teachers by ramping up skills-based degrees designed to match evolving certification requirements in all 50 states. More than 43,000 students are studying for one of 30 education degrees this semester." “Our students are drawn to WGU’s flexible, online, competency-based education model, which measures skills and subject knowledge rather than seat time, and this approach has proven successful,” said Stacey Ludwig Johnson, executive dean of the WGU School of Education. #wgu #teachershortage #onlinelearning #progress #success #teachers More on how WGU is leading the charge to solve the teacher shortage: https://lnkd.in/gVeRwPjZ

Yet more record breaking results, this time from our fantastic GCSE students! This year’s cohort of 146 Year 11s sat 1,497 GCSE exams across 21 different subjects, securing excellent results: 86% grades 7-9 (equivalent to A-A*), 70% grades 8-9 (equivalent to A*) and 44% at the highest possible grade 9. Notably, RGS has 1% of the students in the UK who achieved all 9s A total of 57 students achieved a remarkable set of 11 GCSEs and almost half of all grades were the highest possible achievable - grade 9. Perhaps most impressive of all, RGS GCSE results place it in the top 1% of schools in the country for its ‘value added’ for GCSEs. Chris Quayle, RGS’s Deputy Head (Academic) who leads the school’s approach to learning and teaching, said: “Reflecting on the past year as a whole, all Year 11 students should be proud of what they have achieved as individually they have earned their success and have collectively secured yet another record-breaking year of RGS GCSE results.” Geoffrey Stanford, RGS’s Headmaster added: “Our Year 11 students are truly phenomenal. Whilst RGS is renowned for stellar academic results, being in the top one percent of schools in the UK for value added reflects the combined efforts of our students, their parents and our staff.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eZPZfZSB #WeAreRGS #RecordBreaking #GCSEResults | Independent Schools Council | The Institute of Development Professionals in Education (IDPE) | HMC (The Heads' Conference) | Schools North East

YPL Co-Director Brian Jacob's study of career and technical education focuses on the benefits of CTE and the disparities in access across Michigan. Speaking to Michigan Public, Dr. Jacob emphasized: "The (CTE) courses themselves can be more engaging. They're more kind of applied, hands on, real world. And I think for many students that can be a motivating factor to stay in school." #cte, #careerandtechnicaleducation, #educationpolicy #YouthPolicyLab https://lnkd.in/e3fvUivr
