COP29 Azerbaijan has been very focused on financing instruments and cooperation mechanisms between the states (Article 6). It also was a great opportunity to intensify the collaboration between policy makers and the private sector to push financial support for climate actions and get new projects done 🤝 .   🌱 We welcome that the COP29 Presidency has unveiled a groundbreaking Hydrogen Declaration, urging that we work together to scale up renewable, clean/zero-emission and low-carbon #hydrogen production and deployment, targeting particularly end-use sectors that are difficult to decarbonize. HIF is ready to provide solutions now ⛽ , including a portfolio of approximately 3 million tonnes of green hydrogen projects to be used to produce e-Fuels for the transport sector.   We look toward the next meetings of the UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) to codify the GHG emissions reduction legislation for the maritime sector at the MEPC83 meeting in April 2025.   We shared our insights through several speaking engagements of Meg Gentle, Executive Director of the Board; Thorsten Herdan, CEO of HIF EMEA; and Ali Zerouali, Chief Developing Officer of MEA region.   #COP29 #eFuels #netzeronow

We’re excited to share that our Chief Sustainability Officer, Onon Bayasgalan, will be speaking at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, on November 15. She’ll join an Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) event, presenting URECA’s Coal-to-Solar (C2S) initiative and discussing energy transition solutions for vulnerable communities. In Ulaanbaatar, C2S helps low-income families shift from coal-based heating to clean, renewable energy, tackling air pollution and boosting energy resilience in one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable capitals. #14 November: It was such an exciting first day for our team at #COP29! We hosted three engaging side events, bringing together public and private sector leaders to discuss the future of #hydrogen. With strong attendance, a vibrant atmosphere, and insightful discussions, it’s clear that hydrogen’s potential resonates across the international community. Looking forward to more impactful conversations in the days ahead! ✅In collaboration with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, UNIDO explored the topic of derisking investment in #hydrogen technologies to accelerate the #decarbonisation of industrial sectors. 🔹 The panel explored the pivotal role countries in the Global South, with significant renewable energy potential and mineral resources, can play in producing clean fuels and materials, generating added value domestically before export. 🔹The panel came to the consensus that technology is not the limiting factor to the development of hydrogen industry but the shortcomings are on the regulatory framework and financing. 🤝 With Rebecca Maserumule, Ph.D., Pradeep Tharakan Smeeta Fokeer, moderated by Luiza Demôro) ✅   In alignment with the #COP29 Presidency, #UNIDO hosted an event with its public and private sector partners to emphasize the need for ambitious climate action, empower governments to fulfil their commitments through large-scale hydrogen initiatives, and discuss sustainability criteria for such projects.
