It's You Vs. You. On race day, I always have one goal in mind: to beat my own personal record. The results are out, and while my main focus was simply to PR (something that doesn't always happen), I was thrilled to see that on top of a new PR, I ended up placing 2nd in my division and 20th overall! It's amazing what can happen when you concentrate on personal growth and improvement. The real race should always be about you vs. you. Keep showing up, be intentional, and watch as the threshold of your personal limits continues to expand. The biggest lesson I have learned in PR is to cut the fluff. Get to the point. Be authentic. Add value. In my early career, I was excited to shout about everything I saw as positive, without pulse-checking the entire company or ecosystem. That makes it fluff. The value is lost in it being 'just for PR'. I was excited to shout about people who had failed their exams but built big businesses (on days like today). Excited to shout about things that I saw as a positive change or new policy. Now, I see it's never that simple. It can be easier to get traction with the fluff, hit targets. But is that the best way to add value? #PR #Media
