There are plenty of challenges working in content for a non-rights-holder brand. For example, we can't really use the letters A F L in that order (note the space between them legal eagles). Cricket? I mean we love it, but we wouldn't dare try to talk about the country's most beloved team. The horror. And "Paris" might as well be a four-letter word for the next month or so. So I love it when the team embrace these challenges to produce content that adds genuine value to the national sports narrative. With all the barriers, we find a way to tell great stories. And yes we may be a brand... but honestly we are a genuine media brand.

Adelaide Fringe 2024 was a massive season and it took herculean efforts from everyone to get through! Incredible numbers attended, just over 1 million ticket sold and 4.6 million attendances .. (if anyone has questions about the difference between those numbers please ask! It's quite simple, there's lots of ways to attend that doesn't involve a ticketed show) it was fantastic to see so many tourists come to Adelaide for Fringe 2024 - they bought huge numbers of tickets and spent big in local hotels and restaurants. in many ways a big triumph, but of course there is more to the story and one of the scariest elements is the fact that festival presentation costs have gone up by about 30% in the last year or so .. the ticket sales were up by around 4% (1,040,305) and the average ticket price remained the same around $33. So it doesn't take much to look at the sums and realise it is very tough to make it all balance. Lots of festivals have cancelled and closed down in recent months because of these rising costs in the supply chains. We are going to work harder than ever to try raise enough money to shore up the Fringe in future - Adelaide Fringe is a precious jewel of the nation and we need all the help we can get to survive this storm.

What a day of state league football! The effort and sacrifices these players make to play at this level in a semi-professional environment intertwined with the full-time AFL - Australian Football League athletes are highly underrated. Still in the wake of 35,000 attending the SANFL Grand Final and 25,000 at the WAFL Grand Final. You can't help but think we still leave so much on the table. As an event, the State League Grand Finals are brilliant. What the SANFL does with their festival of football and the activations around the day are special, and as a player, it is a brilliant reward. 7 AFL do a brilliant job covering the game and JAM TV produce a fantastic televised product to maximise what we have. Can we do more? I think we can, I think the VFL can further leverage Grand Final weekend in the AFL and extend this event to make it part of the week. We have seen 13 stand-alone state league clubs play finals across the 3x state leagues and only 5 AFL reserves or aligned teams play finals. That is around 300 players playing at Stand-Alone clubs who are not on AFL lists. These athletes deserve to be playing on the biggest stage they can and in front of packed houses on their biggest day.
