🗨 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗲-𝗨𝗽 Many of you have likely read about how millions of people are leaving X for a new(ish) platform called Bluesky and wondered if maybe you or your brand should set up shop there. Maybe. I have been on Bluesky from close to day one (about 18 months ago). 𝐔𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐟 "𝐏𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚" 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞, 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐤𝐲... 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬. Meaning that I'd often encounter things that I thought were very funny parodies... and find out they were meant with complete seriousness. It's also rife with GroupThink of the far-left progressive variety. To wit, there would be numerous posts from users about how they'd spent their day "hunting down Nazis" on the site and getting them thrown off. Which I thought was a relatively noble cause, given they weren't getting paid for it. Until I realized that "Nazi" did not mean an actual "I Heart Adolf H" Nazi, but rather, someone whose relatively centrist political positions offended them. So there's a lot of that. Or was. As a flood of newcomers show up, that may change--there are more mainstream journalists, there's even the Pitchbot. But new sites take time to get general usage up and right now it mostly seems to be about politics of a certain kind and reflections on the US election. So almost nothing about business or media (beyond the expected NYT, Fox and Rogan-bashing) There's also a lot of Shouting Into The Void. Since no one knows anyone on there, there's not a lot of conversation. Just Twitter pundits collecting likes. Evan Shapīro and I tried it about six months ago. He'd like my posts. I'd like his. And that was about it. We didn't know anyone else. No one knew us. That may change now that there are more users. "May" being the operative word. And on a philosophical level, I worry about One More Bubble, one more place closed off from a diversity of opinions. 💬𝗧𝗟;𝗗𝗥: 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗫 𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲, 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁/𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀/𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮-𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲𝘀. Joined bluesky last week …all I can say Alan is ‘let’s see’ Not sure 🤔if another communication chit chat channel or social media platform was needed because as with all USG, the tone is set by users not the tech champs themselves

1moI can relate to your sentiment. Had similar experience with Bluesky. Dabbled a bit with Threads, but that seems somewhat Whatapp meeting Facebook. LinkedIn is still the best place so far for professional exchange. Also trying to have an independent place to industry specific discussions by launching a dedicated community / app (yet, still in its infancy): https://other-screen-global-tv-b-ajkuyg6.gamma.site/
