Adaptive political economy Seems to make sense for navigating complexity, but what does adaptive mean? 1: Adapting towards a goal 2: Adapting to a context 3. Adapting in relation to an emergent future I love this section of comments by Jean Boulton on Yuen Yuen Ang's SOAS Development Leadership Dialogue lecture from June 2024. https://lnkd.in/eBhpx5SJ #adaptdev #complexity #systemsthinking #politicaleconomy

#Innovation: The Anchor in a Turbulent Economy An email with the head-tilting subject line, "What Chegg, China and Pfizer Have in Common" crossed my inbox this afternoon from Blue Spoon Consulting. The subject line had me curious enough to capture my attention for an unavailable half hour. Here is my (very quick) recap: In a world of constant disruption, innovation isn’t just an advantage, it’s the stabilizing force economies need. Companies like Chegg show that clinging to outdated strategies leads to collapse, while bold, system-level innovation creates resilience. Here is my biggest takeaway: True stability comes from adapting, evolving, and rethinking. Leaders who embrace flexibility and envision new ecosystems will thrive in the face of unpredictable change. Here is the connection I see: The Innovation Issue of the Virginia Economic Review couldn’t have been released at a better time. It underscores the critical role of innovation in shaping the future, featuring conversations with leaders leveraging Virginia’s dynamic ecosystem to embrace flexibility and drive innovation in an unpredictable world. Wow. Well done to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership team. #Innovation #Leadership #Strategy #Disruption #EconomicReview Read the issue here:

Forget authenticity. Credibility is the key. 2020: Pandemic and Zoom calls filled the void of in-person interaction. Authenticity became the leadership buzzword. Everyone preached transparency, vulnerability...and the need to be 'real.' But as we started to question the validity of authenticity, Jenni took on the quest to find out what it ACTUALLY means to be a leader that people would follow. The answer? Credibility. But what does it take to become a credible leader? Fast forward to 2024: following years of research and testing of hypotheses, Jenni has uncovered 8 practices of credible leadership. We dived deep into the question of what makes a leader people will follow, ultimately discovering eight practices and their importance. Plus surprising findings about how men and women prioritise these practices differently. The full report and findings are now available to order: https://lnkd.in/e5ZYxdqd #leadership #credibility #research

Need to be inspired? Pete Bethune’s story is extrordinary, my longest interview, two incredible hours of listening, so much for us all to think about. Squeezing it into a column was hard. Here below is an excerpt of some useful advice for leaders in times of crisi pressure or challenge. “I’ve faced this so many times and think about it a lot. if my life, my crew’s life, or my vessels are under threat. It was a skill I learned in the oil industry. I’m very good under pressure. I can think rationally, and I’m very good at figuring out how to solve this problem. The key is usually that I’m part of a team, which I break into thinkers, doers, and flappers.” More below in BusinessDesk NZ Thank you Captain Pete Bethune , Earthrace Conservation Incredible work you are doing. #nzbusiness #courage #service #leadership #failfile https://lnkd.in/gKAc_Kdp

‘So the question is, who will have the political energy to tackle this problem?’ The real question is ‘how will business fill the leadership gap?’ Excellent, thought provoking article on the macro political tension regarding the shift to green. #businesstranformation #businessresilience #climatetransition

how clever of you to extract that. I might have been better to say adapting to what is emerging - ie as it is happening. Glad you found my comments useful
