UCCS Economic Forum reposted this
Weak preliminary November jobs numbers here, showing a decline of 1900 in the Pikes Peak Region (El Paso and Teller Counties) and 3900 statewide, with downward revisions in October. The monthly changes can be noisy at a local level, but the three-month average shows a softening trend that bears watching. Also, we should keep in mind a government shutdown will have more impact here than most places. We have about 13,000 civilian federal employees and 38,000 members of the armed forces. Total civilian payrolls are about 334,000, so more than one out of eight paychecks come from the federal government. Military and federal workers will eventually get back pay, but the uncertainty about when their next paycheck will arrive may cause them to be more cautious on spending until there is a resolution.
