I stepped outside my comfort zone last night and attended April Williams' sales workshop at our Boston Chief summit. Even though after 20+ years in brand, product, creative, packaging, and marketing I have deeply internalized the concept that "we are all in sales", I still question the standard corporate tactics and approach to sales. There's got to be a better way, right? 🤔 But, how do you sell when even the word sales itself conjures "sleazy" and "wrong"? (and also "commission breath" is an amazing term that needs no explanation 🤮) 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ What I came away with last night was validation that simply relating to and caring about your customer's outcome is the number one determinant in selling. Add to that knowledge of both the problem and the solution, and confidence in your moral imperative to sell someone something that they truly need - and you have an unbeatable proposition. 💪🏼 Might the result be fewer sales? Maybe, yes. Will those sales then be more meaningful and deliver sustainable business relationships for the long-term?
