Farmers represent the greatest force of good in the fight against climate change. Not only can farmers utilize agrivoltaics to directly contribute to the clean energy transition, they can also use no tilling to directly sequestere carbon! Methane has doubled since 1850 from The Washington Post. Being 30 times more potent than CO2, scientists cite the threat of escalating methane emissions. 🐂 It is yet another reason to consider reducing beef and dairy, and to select fully grass fed options. Not all beef farming is bad. Intensive, feedlot or grain fed operations come with higher emissions (and lower quality meat). But fully grass fed operations are less financially productive per land unit, so they are still boutique. If more consumers seek this beef out, it could help make this option more viable for producers. 🚮 Landfill methane is another key source. At the household level composting can reduce this. Organic food waste and paper result in more methane in landfills. Our home has cut our trash weight ~40% by composting and then burying at the base of our trees. The birdlife has increased around our house. We think it might be because our garden is a more productive, higher nutrient little ecosystem. 🏎️ Try to find lower emissions ways of travel. This could mean traveling less, or closer or finding cleaner ways to move. 💡Energy conservation is another way to reduce methane (if the power mix is still coal or diesel). The amount of appliances that draw power parasitically when they are not being used.

♻️ Why should you compost?? 🗑️ Food waste is bad enough on it's own, but when it ends up in a landfill it becomes even worse. 🍎 Food scraps emit methane when they decompose under conditions lacking oxygen, like in landfills. Composting, on the other hand, doesn’t produce methane. 💨 Methane's warming effect is more than 80 times as powerful as the same amount of carbon dioxide over a 20-year period.
