One thing I know very little about is growing a TikTok business account. It's not because I don't care, I just simply haven't tried to do it before. Last month I sat with Ellie and Hope - my team - and started a competition of who could grow which platform quicker, both starting entirely from scratch. While I had some insights and advice I could have shared, I wanted them both to spend time properly learning on the job and running with their own ideas. The TikTok account got over 400 followers in about 7 days. To say I was shocked was an understatement. Some people have queried whether or not the content on there is best for the business, but what I'm learning is that the test and play are paying off. So yes, some of it is less professional, but it's actually appealing to a younger audience of decision-makers. ... and apparently, for some reason, people want to know what I'm doing in a day. 😅 So that's been something new I've had to do, putting myself in front of the camera. So… what are we actually supposed to do if TikTok gets banned? Can we talk about this? If you’re a social media manager, how is this hitting you? Because for me, TikTok has never just been “part of the job.” It’s been a source of so much joy and connection. It’s the app where I’ve found so many different tribes, where strangers turn into a community, where you can geek out over niche interests, and where even the smallest moments can feel big. Just the other day, I made a video about how excited I was for my favorite band going on tour. That video ended up getting almost 10,000 views, and suddenly, I was talking to so many people who were just as hyped as I was. It felt like this little corner of the internet came alive, and for a moment, we were all just there together in the excitement. That’s what TikTok does it creates these micro-worlds of connection that feel so real. And it’s not just about the funny videos or the dance trends (though, let’s be honest, we love those too). It’s the inside jokes I share with my fiancée thanks to sounds only TikTok users would get. It’s the conversations, communities, and creativity that no other platform seems to foster in quite the same way. I know we’ve had scares about TikTok before, and I do have hope that it might stick around. But if it doesn’t, I’m already thinking about how to guide my clients through this shift. Reels, Shorts they’re great, but let’s not pretend they have the same energy or magic. For now, we’re going full speed ahead with the strategies we have, while making sure content is spread across multiple platforms as a backup plan. TikTok coming to LinkedIn. You ready? ByteDance is officially on the clock. They have 270 days to sell TikTok. Or they lose access to the US market. 1.1M TikTok creators woke up this morning having to decide if they'll stay or go. What would it look like for those creators to migrate here? LinkedIn has begun prioritizing video content. Or maybe those TikTok creators will decide: Not again. That they're done building their businesses on rented land. In reality, we're in the same boat. At any point: • Our account can be shuttered • Our content flagged as spam • Our reach throttled Actually, that just happened to me (and many others). TikTok has changed everything. And now all the other social media platforms (and many brand marketing teams!) are frantically scrambling to keep up. We now have Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and Facebook Reels as other channels move to the fast-paced, vertical-first content pioneered by TikTok. But the real secret to TikTok's success is its algorithm. Unlike most other platforms, users aren't tied to content produced by people they follow. Instead, TikTok delivers content based on a user's interests and viewing habits – as well as their favourite creators. For brands, this provided incredible potential... to go viral from day one. Because if your content is good enough, TikTok will reward you with reach – regardless of your audience volume. I've seen it first-hand through Biz Kids, my entrepreneurship platform for children, and the pop song we created, 'Make Me a Goddess'. In the single month of May after the song was launched, the Biz Kids TikTok channel had: ✅ 8 million views ✅ 4,160 comments ✅ 116,000 likes ✅ 5,060 shares Those numbers are truly astonishing and have pushed Biz Kids into the eyes and ears of thousands and thousands of kids all over the world. That's the potential TikTok carries - as long as you're producing the kind of content people want to see and you're able to produce it consistently. How do I produce at scale like this? Yeah that's a pretty lofty goal... AND I was going to do it with something I've NEVER done before... TikTok marketing! Honestly I avoided TIkTok like the plague... And now I know why.. What I was doing works and there was a lot to learn about TikTok BEFORE getting started You can't just jump on and start making post willy nilly You gotta know the rules, the tricks, the tactics... AND you MUST have a content strategy It's NOT just about posting 3 times a day. There's a WHOLE lot more involved. So I took a step back... And started researching, studying and following to learn all I could. And here I am a month later... With only $400 made towards my goal... And starting fresh on TikTok That's right I pushed the reset. Opened a new account and started over from scratch. 🚀 How did you grow your TikTok page from 0 to 105k followers without any prior experience... Is a question I get a lot. Here's the secret: there is no blueprint. It's all about trial and error. When we started, we posted multiple times a day. It was crucial to see what performed well and what didn't. Here's what worked for us: - Experimentation: Posting frequently (3x a day) and noting what resonated with our audience. - Inspiration: Learning from fellow creators and adding our own twist. - Keep up to date with trends: If you're a week late, there is no point - Analysis: When a video did well, we noted what worked and recreated it. If something flopped, we ditched it and moved on. This process, repeated over and over, allowed us to grow our page organically.
