“It’s like the wind in our cannabis sails in Colorado has just been sucked all the way out,” said Wanda James, founder of Denver dispensary Simply Pure, one of the first recreational dispensaries in the state. A messy assortment of factors has led to the pioneering industry’s struggles. A supply glut caused weed prices to plummet in the wake of the pandemic. The spread of cheap, largely unregulated intoxicating hemp-derived products further heightened competitive pressures. And marijuana remains federally illegal, subjecting operators to sky-high taxes and costly regulations. But more than any other factor, Colorado’s market has been sapped by the rapid spread of legalization across the country. Neighbors New Mexico and Arizona are among the 24 states with their own adult-use legal marijuana markets, wreaking havoc on the business plans of dispensaries on Colorado’s southern border. Tourists who once flooded the state for the opportunity to legally experience Rocky Mountain highs have largely disappeared as the novelty has worn off. Even Texans aren’t driving north to buy weed anymore, satisfied with the proliferation of intoxicating hemp products in their own state. #coloradocannabis #cannabisindustry #simplypure #wandajames #cannabismarket #coloradocannabismarket https://lnkd.in/gpGxG8mA

RIDING THE HIGH: Michigan dispensaries set another monthly sales record of $295 million in August and customers are continuing to pay the lowest prices on record—which is quelling concerns that Ohio’s newly legalized weed market could stifle business for Michigan shops. MIDWEST SHOWDOWN: While Ohioan pot shops haven’t impacted Michigan’s weed market, Indiana could be the next border state to join the competition after Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jennifer McCormick reportedly voiced a new plan to legalize recreational marijuana. SENIOR STONERS: A new University of Michigan study shows that older Michiganders use cannabis products more than older adults in other states. More specifically, about 27% of Michiganders in their 50s smoke weed—compared to only about 21% in other states. Just the tiniest bit of research demonstrates the absurdity of the terrifying "fear-porn" claims about Delta 8 THC. 1941: Delta-8 THC was first discovered through a partial synthesis process, allowing scientists to isolate the compound. Roger Adams at the University of Illinois is credited with possessing the first pure delta-8 compound, according to historical records. 1974: Researchers used a trio of cannabinoids on mice, including Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 THC, and CBD, to study the effects of THC. The National Cancer Institute conducted this study to prove that THC harmed the immune system, but instead, they discovered that Delta-8 THC possessed cancer-killing abilities. 1975: Further research was conducted using rats, which found that Delta-8 THC could also shrink tumors. This study discovered that Lewis lung adenocarcinoma growth was decreased by an oral administration of specific cannabinoids, including Delta-9 THC, Delta-8 THC, and CBN (Cannabinol).

Martha's Vineyard Is Running Out Of Marijuana There's trouble brewing in Cape Cod, where Martha's Vineyard is in danger of running out of marijuana. Local dispensaries are selling out of their product and are unable to order more, due to a quirk in the state's marijuana laws. While Massachusetts legalized recreational cannabis in 2016, federal laws make it illegal to tranport pot over the ocean - which is a problem since Martha's Vineyard is an island. It's led to a battle with the state's Cannabis Control Commission over whether it should be legal to transport marijuana on state waterways. States like California and Hawaii have dealt with similar issues. Should the federal government make an allowance here? Do you think the federal government will ever fully legalize marijuana nationwide?

Are we prioritizing small businesses or paving the way for corporate monopolies in Florida's cannabis market? An intense battle is unfolding between small hemp businesses and large cannabis corporations. "This isn’t really a battle of (marijuana) and hemp, per se, the battle is really small business against a couple of giants who have been trying to put us out of business for many years." - Ernie Ciaccio, owner of HONEST PRINT, PACKAGING, & DISPLAY, an Orlando-based hemp manufacturer. It's disheartening to see small businesses, which have been the backbone of innovation and local economies, feeling threatened by the monopolistic tendencies of a few major players. Governor Ron DeSantis' recent actions and the state's political dynamics seem to be exacerbating these tensions. DeSantis' veto of proposed hemp regulations and his opposition to Amendment 3 have left many wondering about the future landscape of Florida's cannabis industry. While Amendment 3 aims to regulate and open up the market, it seems to be setting the stage for a few large companies to dominate the space, leaving little room for smaller, independent operators. What are your thoughts on this? #CannabisIndustry #FloridaCannabis #SmallBusiness #Cannabis #Quantum9

It’s hard being the Bank for the entire industry. 97% of survey respondents (87) are operating at a loss. Losses that are existential. Most of the issues are structural and not poor business decisions. 30% fear retaliation from OCM. 80% want OCM audited by a 3rd party.
