ACEVO is working closely with NCVO and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport , to develop a framework for a Civil Society Covenant to reset the relationship between civil society and government to create lasting, positive change. It is proposed the covenant will apply to support all public bodies and civil society organisations. It aims to build on and support existing agreements in place at a local level. It is proposed that it will focus on England, and complement other arrangements in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The four draft principles are: 1. Recognition: to ensure a strong and independent civil society 2. Partnership: to ensure effective service delivery and policy-making 3. Participation: to ensure people and communities can be heard and make a difference 4. Transparency: to ensure civil society and government have the information needed to best serve people and communities Join us in this opportunity to shape what has the potential to re-set the policy environment that civil society leaders and their organisations operate in, for the benefit of the people and causes we exist to serve. https://lnkd.in/eiRcHB3G

April City Club Registration is now Open! Come learn about how Central Oregon could be at the center of a new push for democratic engagement! Citizen Assemblies- Reinvigorating Civic Engagement 4/18/2024 8:30am Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Oregon Join us for a discussion that will open up the idea of citizen involvement in local decision making. Increasingly people on all sides of the political spectrum (including those unengaged) feel left out of how decisions are made. A Citizens’ Assembly is a group of people selected by lottery who are broadly representative of a community. They spend significant time learning and collaborating through facilitated deliberation to find common ground and form collective recommendations for policy makers, decision makers, and the community. These Assemblies are sometimes called Citizens’ Juries, Panels, or Councils depending on their size and the country where they are taking place. We will discuss how this model works international and how it is currently being used right here in Central Oregon. Thanks for another insightful article Sarah Davidson. Two things struck me that have been niggling for some time. One is that at UK government level, the Treasury seems to be master rather than servant. If the new government is serious about the mission led approach, then Cabinet should drive the priorities and Treasury should apply funding accordingly. At the moment it appears they operate in a separate bubble with their own agenda. The other point applies across the board. What gets measured gets done. Besides the fact that there is far too much measurement, much of it meaningless, the NPF will only ever be effective if public servants are held to account against its priorities. Those two changes could transform the outcomes.
A lot of talk about "mission-driven government" this week as we anticipate a major (and definitely not a re-launch) speech from the PM tomorrow. It might not surprise you to know that I have views! At Carnegie UK we have the benefit of over a decade of working with governments designing and implementing outcome-led approaches, so why so little Whitehall interest in the experiences of administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland? 🤔 In partnership with UofG Centre for Public Policy I've published an essay that draws on these insights, plus my own experience of working at a senior level in the Scottish Government. TLDR: without radical changes to the way that Whitehall works with itself and with others, mission-driven government is just so much magical thinking. https://lnkd.in/dXhAXQPg

I’m not being a hater. Let’s have a serious discussion: Why does any Institution of Higher Education feel that having alums who are delegates to a Political Convention is newsworthy? THERE IS NO PURPOSE! That university is trying to engage in DEMOCRAT PARTY GOTV efforts. Their federal funding should be CUT! There are probably 50 Carolina alums who are delegates. A&T has several delegates and you don’t see their University promoting such a common occurrence. I encourage the Administration at NCCU to stay out of politics and focus on fundraising (which last I read, was quite pathetic). Get some of your alums to stop buying BMWs and give you $100 and perhaps we wouldn’t have to utilize so much of our tax dollars on landscaping over in Durham. Black Institutions must stop playing SMALL BALL. This type of BUSHLEAGUE activity is why Blacks as myself, who took Honors and AP courses and excelled DO NOT EVEN APPLY TO THESE SCHOOLS. #GlorifiedHighSchoolers #PoliticallyCHEAPpeople 🤦
#NCCUCommunity | NCCU rising senior Devin Freeman and alumnus Durham Mayor Leo Williams have been selected as delegates for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Freeman and Williams are first-time delegates. | #WherePurposeTakesFlight #EaglePride #NCCUAlumni #NCCU25 | READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/ejM-Ep9z

📢 Update on the Renters Reform Bill (RRB): iHowz has been lobbying parliament for some time, working alongside Sir Christopher Chope regarding the RRB. However, on the 3rd reading, the situation remains uncertain. Despite efforts, an opposition amendment to immediately abolish Section 21 was defeated. The Bill stipulates Section 21 will be axed 'when the court system improves,' but the specifics are sadly lacking. Key points of the Bill: 1. Abolition of Section 21 Evictions: Ensures tenants' security by preventing landlords from evicting without cause. 2. Decent Home Standard: Sets minimum safety and quality standards for rental properties. 3. Enhanced Tenant Rights: Grants new rights, including pet permissions and protection against discrimination. 4. Review of Court System: Ensures effective management of eviction cases before Section 21 abolishment. 5. Timeline Adjustments: Allows for adequate preparation periods for landlords and tenants. 6. Clarifications on Rights/Obligations: Ensures clarity in tenant rights and landlord obligations. 7. Focus on Housing Standards: Ensures safe and habitable rental accommodation. 8. Balancing Interests: Aims for fairness between landlords and tenants. Overall, the RRB, with its amendments, represents a comprehensive effort to reform the rental sector and address key issues affecting renters across the UK. Stay tuned for updates! 🏠🔑 #rentersreformbill #RRB #ukrentals #uklandlords #rentals #privaterentedsector #prs
