First post of the year? It’s been quite an eventful year and here’s the timeline of a feature film we locked few weeks ago. I love an organised timeline not just because it helps me to stay organized but also because it makes turnovers less complicated. From sound to colour and VFX turnovers. Editors are often advised to organize their timelines in such a way that another editor can figure it out in minutes(just incase the project gets transferred to another editor) #FilmEditing #DavinciResolve #BlackmagicDesign #TimelineThursday

Behind the Scenes: The 5 Stages of Film Production.. Creating a film is a journey that brings ideas to life on screen. Here’s a quick look at the key stages involved: 1️. Development: The concept is born! Here, ideas are crafted into a script, a budget is estimated, and initial planning begins. It's where vision meets paper. 2️. Pre-Production: The groundwork. Casting, scouting locations, creating schedules, and assembling the crew are done in this stage. It's all about preparing for a smooth shoot. 3️. Production: Lights, camera, action! This is where the filming happens. Directors, actors, and crew work together to capture each scene. 4️. Post-Production: The magic of editing. Footage is cut, visual effects are added, sound is mixed, and the story comes to life. It’s where everything truly starts to take shape. 5️. Distribution: Sharing the story. The final film is promoted and released to theaters, streaming platforms, or festivals, ready for audiences around the world. Each step is essential to create a film that resonates and tells a compelling story. #FilmProduction #MovieMaking #BehindTheScenes #FilmIndustry #FilmStages #PreProduction #PostProduction #Development #MovieMagic #FilmmakingJourney #CreativeProcess #Storytelling #FilmCrew #ProductionStages #Cinema

🏆 It's awards season ✨ The TV and Film industry have been onto what3words for a while, and it makes a lot of sense when you're popping up an entire village of people and props in a random locations for a shoot. In a production where every second costs money and daylight, efficiency is key. We (of course) use what3words for our call sheets, meeting spots and remembering exactly where we took our best shots. But here are 3 partners where a what3words integration helps this crew in particular behind the scenes: Helios Pro - An app that allows cinematographers and location scouts to forecast the position of the sun, moon and stars to help visualise what a shot will look like at any time of day. The Movie Lot - On-set security for productions like Doctor Who, uses what3words to help coordinate staff to the right spots. Addison Lee - A city favourite for getting from A to B, their app and booking platform accepts what3words addresses to make sure people, equipment, lunches...or whatever is needed get exactly to the right spot. Is the film industry dying? The entertainment industry is going through a “contraction” felt across all entertainment sectors, including film, TV, animation, and gaming. Many thought once productions set schedules, ordered scripts, and booked studio space, cameras would be rolling sometime in January. But in fact, studios are cutting projects, leaving production levels uncomfortably low in 2024. There is not one sweeping answer for the slowdown; one circumstance or issue seems to lead to another. And, each film community is dealing with specific setbacks in their area. In this article we look at some of the industry reports coming out, dispel rumors and fears, and try to ascertain when the industry will pickup again. In this issue: Why is the film industry slow? More strike action in 2024? Is AI taking over the film Industry? When are the jobs coming? What to do in the meantime. #filmindustry #artdepartment #productiondesign #filmjobs #graphicdesign #graphicartist #moviegraphics #filmgraphics #graphicdesignforfilmandtv #setjobs #graphicprops #filmjobs #graphicarts #filmindustryjobs #graphicdesignforfilm #filmdesign #graphicsinmovies #IATSESTRIKE #filmwork https://lnkd.in/g4qTRS32

On the Fundamental Dilemma of Cinema & TV Shows; A key fundamental dilemma of Cinema (as it is also in Theatre & Television) is: HOW CAN WE TAKE THE AUDIENCE THROUGH INTERNAL PROCESSES WHILE USING EXTERNAL EXPRESSIONS? PROSE NARRATIVES (Novels) don’t have this problem, as PROSE NARRATIVES can go directly into the interiority of THOUGHT and EMOTION. Substantially an integral reason why Film and Prose Narratives being presented as artistic parallels is commonly flawed. It's also why prosaic methods applied to Film lead to pseudo-mystique and half-baked ambiguity. * PROSE NARRATIVES are a method of TELLING THE STORY. * FILM NARRATIVES are a method of SHOWING THE STORY. The solution to the fundamental dilemma is actually very simple in its base state. If the interior were to express itself, how would it do so? It gets trickier when we build upon the base, going from the broad to the specific. In making this transition, we have to ask: If the interior were to express itself as; 1. Tone, how would it do so? 2. As Music…? 3. As Colour…? 4. As Dialogue…? 5. As Composition…? 6. As Visual Movement…? 7. As Human Movement…? We must query all these expressive elements that converge into a Film. If this sounds exhausting, that’s because it is. It's a key reason why the whole enterprise takes time. Imperatively, it is why a good script is vital, because the writing phase is where we can embed the root for every other part of production to fully flourish. When we watch a Film/TV Series or Theatre Play where the formal aspects are so rich, that is; 1. Exciting Directing… 2. Brilliant Set Design… 3. Great Cinematography… Yet it still feels flat (lacking a heart) that is exactly a poorly embedded root at play. The second layer of difficulty in the solution to the fundamental dilemma is that we must understand two things simultaneously: 1. The Interior and, 2. The Tool of Expression. So basically, when we ask: If the interior were to express itself as tone, how would it do so? We must understand: 1. The Interior Inherently, 2. Tone Inherently and, 3. The Peculiar Intersection between Tone and the Interior in question. Again, we do this for every single element. The sheer bulk and difficulty of this is a part of why by-the-numbers (Analytics/Algorithms) storytelling is necessary at the mainstream. Despite any distaste for that manner of work, a true and proper process cannot create enough to feed a mass market (even before the endless hunger of the internet). The actual problem with by-the-numbers is not knowing how or losing interest in freshening up the stock process. The act of solving the fundamental problem occurs on three tiers of instinctive creation; 1. Conscious crafting and, 2. Intuitive Crafting. NB: The matured artist (what one would call a master) can slip into any of these tiers and work from there. #ScreenWriting #Visual #Storytelling #Story #TV #Film #Television #Entertainment #CrazyRichAsians #TheGreenMile #ForrestGump

Production Designers are the muti-taskers in a Ad-film set. They are expected to have information and updates mostly from all the departments. This is a job for those who love all the layers of Ad filmmaking. In my opinion, someone with the right amount of persistence and eagerness to know more can master the role of Production Designer. Hey there, fellow storytellers! It’s been a while! I’ve been busy with a number of new projects, including the Africa Magic original drama series 10th Avenue. Today, let’s discuss a few things i re-learned while making this show. One key thing that's often overshadowed by the glitz of the final product is the importance of a great production team in TV series creation. Beyond scripts and performances, a dedicated team brings the story to life. My experience with 10th Avenue reinforced how crucial a strong team is. A TV series is a multifaceted endeavor requiring a well-oiled machine from pre-production to post-production. Each team member—directors, producers, writers, cinematographers, set designers, costume designers, editors—plays an integral role. It’s like a symphony, where every instrument must be in harmony. Assembling the right team is actually half the battle. And it’s not just about glowing resumes but finding individuals who share your vision. On "10th Avenue," this really helped make the difference. Pre-production meetings with these like-minded individuals aligned our goals and set the series’ tone. Clear communication is the lifeblood of any production. On "10th Avenue," we established open lines from day one with regular check-ins, feedback and an environment where everyone felt comfortable voicing ideas. This transparency allowed us to tackle problems head-on. A great production team thrives on trust and collaboration. I recall a challenging scene on "10th Avenue" involving a complex sequence. After a "spirited" discussion, the director, camera crew, and actors worked seamlessly together, showcasing the trust we built. In TV production, things rarely go as planned. During "10th Avenue," a sudden downpour threatened an outdoor shoot. Our quick-thinking team adapted to an indoor setting without compromising the story. Attention to detail is critical. From set design to costume continuity, every detail enhances the story’s believability. On "10th Avenue," our art department created an immersive world that felt real. Once cameras stop rolling, the work isn’t over. The post-production team is still weaving and ensuring every frame, sound, and transition is perfect, turning raw footage into a polished final product. Challenges were inevitable—some people didn’t fit the vision, budget lines overran, and there were downtimes. But we prevailed. The success of a TV series is a collective effort. Acknowledge and celebrate the unsung heroes behind the scenes. Their dedication and hard work make the magic happen. To aspiring storytellers, remember your production team is your greatest asset. Build a passionate team, communicate openly, trust and collaborate, stay flexible, and pay attention to details. With the right team, you can bring your vision to life. Keep dreaming, creating, and celebrating the magic of storytelling. Until next time, Rogba #CreativeProcess #Storytelling #ProductionTeam #10thAvenue #MusingsOfAStoryteller
