"How can I check if my instructions have really been understood? I've got a team member who's from a culture that is very deferential to leaders. When I ask if they understand the task I've set them, they always say "yes" but it has become clear that they often don't. How could I communicate more effectively with them?" In tonight's episode of Ask Leah, I share how this leader could ask better questions to check her team member's understanding of instructions in a way that doesn't prompt a "yes" or "no" answer. If you've got a communication, leadership, emotional intelligence, self-management, or "people problem" question you'd like answered, send it through and I'll answer it in a future episode. #askleah #communication #leadership #betterquestions

In the latest episode of #WorkMatters, Thomas Bertels and Dennis Adsit talk about #employeedevelopment. Dennis stresses the need for a #mentalmodel to systematically approach development rather than relying on random or haphazard methods, and he shares his model for people development, which consists of five elements: - Intentionality - Setting Targets - Operational Reviews as Dojos - Tell Your Truth - Job Design We conclude the conversation concludes with a discussion of the importance of #Generosity. Leaders who possess this trait are more likely to foster a supportive and growth-oriented environment, ultimately leading to a more motivated and capable team. Dennis' insights offer a comprehensive framework for leaders seeking to enhance their team's development and effectiveness. His practical advice on fostering intentionality, setting clear targets, creating learning environments, providing honest feedback, and designing challenging roles provides a valuable blueprint for leaders looking to make a lasting impact on their organizations.
