We love the #media and #entertainment industry. We love you all!
But we hate that so many of us are still confused by things like "CTV vs OTT" "FAST vs AVOD"
Frankly, this space moves so #FAST (pun intended), that it's too easy to miss something.
And there's so much great content, it's too easy for things to get overlooked.
So we did something.
We built a front page to the best of the #streamingmedia industry.
Enjoy :)

How Streaming Platforms Are Changing the Way We Consume Entertainment
The way we consume entertainment has undergone a massive transformation over the past decade, and streaming platforms have been at the forefront of this revolution. No longer are viewers confined to traditional TV schedules or reliant on physical media like DVDs. Instead, services like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video have given consumers the

Highlights of Prime Video Keynote Fireside Chat at #streamingsummit :
Building an Industry-Leading Viewing Experience for Global Audiences
Guest : B.A Winston, VP Amazon Prime
Very insightful discussion, important topics you need to remember.
1. Low Latency
Key for customers to get this feature, for those who still believe there is no business model behind it, we now talk how to scale. Good progresss.
Hard to deliver at scale: millions of concurrent sessions x thousands of different devices. Amazon uses Sye, a proprietary UDP protocol, as opposed to what some others like SKY do using HTTP, or even with ULL (lower scaler though) using today WebRTC, tomorrow QUIC.
[Note: as we have yet to see very large scale CMAF base LL, difficult to assess, still for the FIFA’22, I had reported few Million+ concurrent streams in a single country].
2. Delivery
Another hard subject to crack. Here Prime is relying on CloudFront edge caching capabilities but also work with other partners to improve QoE.
[Note : deep caching to improve QoE is indeed a hot topic, see my CDN Diversity piece].
3. Compression
B.A mentioned that in order to scale Amazon works on better compression using AI tools, developed internally. No mentioning about AV1, which is a surprise.
[Note : 100% aligned with my NAB’24 paper]
4. HDR
Looks like Dolby tech (Vision, ATMOS) costs and is only available for paid tier.
No details was provided for Live sports, my take is HDR10 is currently used.
[Note: As several options exists for dynamic meta data HDR: HDR10+, SL HDR-2, ….) price pressure will apply.
5. UHD
For time being Prime has selected 1080p60 HDR, still UHD per the Ultra HD Forum definition.
Prime seems happy with this choice. When coupled with scalability challenges, we can understand Prime will have to build first an adequate delivery NW before moving to 2160p (2x bitrate).
[Note: Prime like other operators have selected this resolution for sports (Euro’24, champions league Final’24). In US, MAX uses 2160p60 Dolby Vision for soccer though, the discussion is not over]
6. Take away
A good refresh on where Amazon Prime, Bell weather for Live Sports streaming, stands in 2024.
It will be interesting to compare with other large streamers like FuboTV, YouTube TV NFL, Peacock, Apple TV+, WBD, DAZN, subject of future insights.
