Differently Abled, Not Disabled: Celebrating Strength and Resilience Disability is not a limitation; it is a testament to the strength, resilience, and incredible potential within each individual. At 1NGO, we believe in empowering the differently abled, celebrating their abilities, and fostering inclusion in every community. Through technology, digital platforms, and support systems, we aim to create opportunities where everyone, regardless of their challenges, can thrive. Together, let’s break stereotypes, champion equality, and recognize the immense value that differently abled individuals bring to the world. Because ability is about possibilities, not limitations. Today, on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we celebrate the extraordinary strength and courage of individuals who inspire us with their resilience and determination. WHO WE ARE Disabled People’s Association (DPA) stands as an independent, cross-disability non-profit organisation. We represent the disability community, working to build a fairer society where everyone can participate in all aspects of life, from education to employment and access to social integration. WHAT WE DO A Voice of Our Own: We are an organisation for people with disabilities run by people with disabilities. We listen to the needs of all persons with disabilities in Singapore, their allies, carers and other social service organisations that provide essential services, and we ensure their needs are represented at a national level. We provide a platform for all people with disabilities to speak up and ensure their voices are heard, and we represent those less able or comfortable to speak for themselves. HOW WE DO IT We help the disability community have a voice in society by working with decision-makers in political, commercial and educational institutions so that no decision that impacts us is made without us. We also provide training for both people with disabilities and the public, so we can work together to create an inclusive, accessible society we are all proud of. 🍵☕️Are there many things more pleasing than the right office drinking vessel? I had a meeting with Health & Safety guru Shabbir Halai CMIOSH, MIIRSM recently and offered to take a few bags of stuff he had to the Scope charity shop opposite our office. They say good deeds pay off and by doing that I found this amazing pair of cups which are a perfect brand match for our pink and white office! Like us, they are a little bit different. They have character and they are definitely not following the crowd of the other white mugs we usually use. I really believe business should be like this -representing you, the things that are important to you and that shape your brand values. We want everyone we care for to feel their own identity and have things that bring them joy. :) Scope is one of my favourite charities because our Capable Care business shares so many common values with their mission. They are active and passionate advocates for equality regardless of disability. If you haven't seen it they have developed a social model of disability: "... people are disabled by barriers in society, not by their impairment or difference. Barriers can be physical, like buildings not having accessible toilets. Or they can be caused by people's attitudes to difference, like assuming disabled people can't do certain things. The social model helps us recognise barriers that make life harder for disabled people. Removing these barriers creates equality and offers disabled people more independence, choice and control." This is everything we are about - levelling the field and enabling choice and enagagement with life on people's own terms. To find out more about what it's like to have help from us - drop us a message or you can email [email protected]

Imagine navigating a world where every step is a potential obstacle, where simple tasks become challenges, and where basic accessibility is a luxury rather than a given. For Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), this is not just a scenario—it's their daily reality. While many take for granted the ability to move freely, communicate effortlessly, and access information without barriers, PwDs often face systemic, physical, and attitudinal barriers that impede their full participation in society. From inaccessible infrastructure to limited educational and skilling opportunities, the disparity in accessibility between PwDs and the general population is stark. At TRRAIN we're transforming disability into ability with skill-training. Eventually making them confident, skilled, empowered and employed with sustainable livelihoods. You are the one who makes these transformations possible. Empowerment Beyond Charity: Economic Inclusion for Persons with Disabilities. 1. Economic empowerment for persons with disabilities is a fundamental right, not charity. 2. It's about removing systemic barriers to ensure equal access to education, employment, and financial resources. 3. The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities underscores the importance of their full participation in society. 4. Businesses benefit from diversity; including persons with disabilities enhances innovation and profitability. 5. Excluding persons with disabilities from the workforce leads to significant economic losses for society. 6. Investing in disability inclusion is not only socially responsible but also economically advantageous. #DisabilityRights #InclusionMatters #EconomicEmpowerment

The Achieve Foundation’s Case for Philanthropy in Disability identifies that philanthropy has a huge opportunity to support the inclusion of people with disability. Commissioned by The Achieve Foundation in 2022 and developed by the Deloitte Access Economics, the report shows that in 2017-18, only 4.3% of philanthropic grant funding was allocated for people with disability, despite approximately 18% of the population having a disability. While the NDIS has provided much needed supports, it only supports about 12% of people with disability in Australia. The need is real and philanthropy has an opportunity to lead the charge for social inclusion. To learn more about how social inclusion and why philanthropy can help Australia become a more inclusive society, click this link to read the full resource: https://lnkd.in/gJ6qQ3cT #Philanthropy #ImpactInvestment #Disability #Inclusion #SocialInclusion

Disability Victory has been recognized by the Apolitical Foundation as one of 78 Political Leadership Entrepreneur (PLE) organizations to watch, and as the only PLE they know of that is dedicated to disabled leadership. This means that we are the only known organization in the entire WORLD with a mission of encouraging and empowering more disabled people to run for elected office or staff campaigns. And as last week's ableist cover of The Economist shows, we have so much more work to do. Being the only organization doing this work hasn't been easy. We entered the field in 2023, an extremely difficult time to start an organization amid downsizing and layoffs across the political space. We've been told that funding disabled political leadership isn't a priority, and to cut corners on accessibility to save money (something we refuse to do). We continue to work on a shoestring budget to make accessible training programs and resources that answer disabled leaders' questions about running for office. That budget gets tighter every day, making Disability Victory's future uncertain. Right now, we need your help to keep the (virtual) lights on so that we can continue this important mission. This #DisabilityPrideMonth, consider contributing to Disability Victory so that we can continue to create accessible training programs and resources that give more disabled leaders the confidence and skills they need to run for office.
