In some ways, Lee Price was an untypical client. He had had two successful careers: first as a Navy #pilot, #commander, and #ChiefofStaff, overseeing pilot training at Naval Air Station. Next, building on his military experience, Lee had a successful second career in the private sector as a #director of #training for a shipbuilder, training or testing nearly 10,000 employees. Eventually, Lee retired. “Retirement didn’t turn out to be what I thought it would be. It was pretty boring. After about a month, I decided I needed a job. But the economy wasn’t great and job search had changed so much since I had last looked that I was really unsure how to do it. There were things like LinkedIn that I hadn’t considered, as us old-time Boomers had sort of got left out of that.” Lee went to a career counselor and attended a career conference. “I went to that conference and determined that they weren’t looking for guys like me, that career fairs aren’t for guys with significant experience. They were looking for much younger, cheaper, newer options. So I came back, signed with #TheBarrettGroup (TBG), and never looked back. She helped me prepare what I wanted to say and in some cases recommended that I say them a little differently.” “Within 12 weeks of when I signed the contract, I had three quality job offers to choose from. All involved the type of money I wanted to make and were the type of jobs I wanted. And, you know, it’s nice to be in a position where you can pick, after all that time.” Having spent over two decades as a development and training leader, Lee has positively impacted the careers of thousands. He currently serves as the State #Director for Texas, #DepartmentofLabor. “When I talk to people who are looking, I go back to the fact that you’re going to have to be willing to participate in your own job search. Hack! Welcome to Squadron Jobs. Our mission objective is to provide aircrew with free resources, tools, and networking connections that make a successful military to private sector transition in the defense contracting world. For hiring managers, we offer our services as a traditional recruiter. Our team didn’t start out planning to be defense contractors. Through one way or another, we found our way to this industry via word of mouth while searching for post-retirement jobs at the airlines or through business school. What is Fixed about "allow for refinement of the requirements based on the evolution of the software solution?" How much refinement and evolution? If you say here are the requirements - they are fixed and won't change, that's FFP-able. If the requirements are subject to change, if there are cycles with user cats that must be herded to an agreement on the requirements, that isn't FFP. You can FFP a set number of requirements cycles/iterations/spirals, but not the output - we can't predict how much work will spring from the rethunk requirements. I worked an FFP contract with the California State University system - 13? colleges with different ideas all agreeing on a common State college application (CASA). Forcing those 13 different groups to agree on anything was hard, we spent 3 or 4X the budgeted time on refinement, and the changes to the requirements to satisfy all were huge. We eventually lost our shirts and were terminated. The pendulum is swinging away from the knee-jerk, political solution that is the misguided policy war on FFP. Maybe users were tired of hearing "NO" so much on FFP S/W jobs, or the COs were tired of the constant friction on scope because of the contract type mismatch.

Dearest Network. A DoD/Air Force contractor job is coming open extremely soon for someone who: - Loves to have direct impact to our nation's warfighters - Has solid experience with tactical comms kits and architecture. Does not need to be Air Force experience - Understands and applies extreme ownership in discovering problems and stops at nothing, especially govt bureaucracy, to deliver solutions to our warfighters. One caveat, you can't wait to be told to do something and/or to not do anything until a formal requirement is documented - Is always willing to be disruptive for a good cause - Understands policies and processes need to exist but is willing to get them rewritten to make our warfighters more effective - Must be able to operate alone and independently and happy to be an ACTION Officer - Can be a Technologist as long as ideas are followed up with actions - Lives in a world where you understand how things should be but is able to operate in reality, i.e knows the "system" and how to work it - Not be in it for the money but to actually be able to fix shit that needs fixing I know a lot of people out there fit the above qualities, please DM me or feel free to reply with questions.

Why do so many Servicemembers struggle post military service? Kody Petersen posted a version of this question. Got me thinking. For me I have noticed a couple main themes after talking with now thousands of TSM's. 1. Thinking of self outside of a mission...we/they have had very little practice especially career service members. The profession of Arms demands a different kind of dedication. Within this framework the development/promotions etc etc are built in...for many the path is clear and been paved millions of times. 2. And I think this one is as prominent as #1...we really haven't been introduced to ourselves yet. Finding who we are at our core is NOT part of the world class training we receive. This search for who we are is often not brought up...who and what we are or can become out of uniform...it's a mystery to many and all to often the discovery of the possibilities happens after much struggle. Prepare for transition VERY early. Get selfish during the process, ask a million questions, and do whatever is necessary to learn who you really are or want to be out of uniform. #military #transition #bestadvice Fusion Cell MilCruit

Did you know if you’re a Senior Enlisted Member (E-7 to E-9) you can receive 1% lower then the best rate available with Navy Federal Credit Union ? Example; If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, boat, etc and the best rate @ 60 months is 3.9%, you’re eligible for 2.9%! This is of course subject to credit approval. Let me take you back to March of 2021. I was notified on a Tuesday that by that Friday I'd be leaving for a Humanitarian Deployment. I had 3 days to get things together before heading off into uncertainty. During the height of the pandemic, serving as a medic in the Air Force was one of the most intense, challenging, and transformative experiences of my life. The environment was unpredictable, the stakes were high, and we were often pushed to our limits—both physically and mentally. In that time, I developed and honed a set of critical skills that have stayed with me and continue to shape the way I approach challenges today: Resilience: Working long hours in high-stress situations required a level of resilience I never knew I had. Adaptability: The constantly changing nature of the crisis forced us to think on our feet and adapt to new protocols, environments, and information on a daily basis. Flexibility became second nature. Communication: Clear, concise communication was crucial, not just for patient care, but for ensuring the safety and coordination of our team. This skill has translated into every aspect of my work today. Teamwork: No matter how skilled we were individually, it was our ability to work together, support each other, and function as a team that made all the difference. Collaboration was key, and I’ve carried that mindset into every team I’ve worked with since. Empathy: Perhaps most importantly, the pandemic reinforced the importance of compassion. We saw people at their most vulnerable, and being able to provide comfort and care during such a difficult time was a privilege I’ll never forget. Looking back, the lessons I learned during that period have become foundational in my career. They’ve not only made me a better professional but a more grounded and empathetic leader.

When you are not qualified for a job you want and apply anyway because some LinkedIn clown told you to shoot your shot....but you missed. 👀 When applying to most defense government jobs, or with companies who are OFCCP compliant (look it up), you need to meet 100% of the requirements. At bare minimum, you should meet at least 80% as SOMETIMES the government client MAY make SOME exceptions. For example, if they are seeking someone with 10 years' experience but you only have 7 and meet the other requirements, they may still consider you; it just depends on whether you have the major skills they are seeking and how bad they are trying to fill that role. Also, as a recruiter, I will keep candidates in mind who didn't meet the criteria for a particular role but may meet 100% of the requirements for a DIFFERENT role---- which brings me to my next point 👇 Don't get nasty with a recruiter/hiring manager/employer if your application gets rejected for the role you applied for; they may still be considering you for another current role or consider you for FUTURE roles that they feel you may be a better fit for and may sometimes even offer better pay. 🔥🔥When are you retiring/ETSing?🔥🔥 Are you looking for your first role post military career? My advice is generally always the same! If you do these things, you increase your odds a ton! This is all 2nd to networking, always network and talk to as many people you know to let them know you are looking! People love helping! Know your audience, ensure you are on the proper Job boards for 2 reasons so you can easily be found by recruiters and to have job alerts set up for you to apply quickly. Don't forget recruiting is so much about timing, set up alerts and be the first to apply! Proper job boards is subjective; My opinion on job boards you should be on is: Indeed (great for local roles) Clearance Jobs (Great for cleared government roles and government contracting roles) LinkedIn-(Its all-encompassing  you should be on here and connect to the audience you want to work with for instance if you want to work in the Defense space, go on and connect with people with DOD companies who look to hire Veterans all the time!)
