Acute Care Challenges: Systematic Review Identifies Risk Factors in Elderly Long-Term Care Residents A systematic review was conducted to understand why elderly residents in long-term care facilities are increasingly using acute care services. The review found that the highest likelihood of hospital admission occurs within the first year of residency, with respiratory and cardiovascular issues being common reasons for these admissions. Factors like frailty, medication use, falls, and inadequate nutrition were also linked to the use of acute services.
