Every company has ops work – whether it's data entry, doc extraction, info transfer, etc – that is essential for achieving business goals (e.g., booking a customer), but is highly mundane / repetitive and not the best use of employee time. Though some companies have attempted to use Robotic Process Automation (RPA), RPA was an imperfect solution since the tech just wasn't advanced enough yet. Thanks to AI, though, ops work can now be truly productized. In the future, AI agents will be prompted with an end goal (e.g., book an appointment) and be empowered with the right tooling and context to take those actions. They’ll be adaptable to various data inputs and will be able to handle process changes. Because of this flexibility, they will be far easier to implement and maintain than traditional RPA systems, making them more accessible for companies to use. ‏https://lnkd.in/dv_JrJTH

Kudos to Salesforce for advocating for more environmental regulation in the field of artificial intelligence. It's noteworthy that Salesforce is among the first tech companies to call for regulations on AI emissions. The growth of AI has led to a significant impact on energy consumption, which has been a concern for many. Recently, Senator Ed Markey introduced the Artificial Intelligence Environmental Impacts Act of 2024, which has four key provisions. One of the provisions calls for voluntary reporting by entities on the environmental impacts of AI. Although it is a good first step, it remains to be seen how many companies will embrace the call since it is not mandatory. Very Exciting news! Years in the making, a new Agentic Large Action Models (LAM) called ActIO is introduced by Orby AI alongside and a paper to get us grounded with UGround, the new pixel-level visual grounding model. Challenging enterprise automations can't be achieved without creating new foundational models to work alongside Multimodal large language models (MLLMs). New paper linked in the post describes the work done on these category of models by Orby AI and researchers at OSU NLP group including Boyu Gou and led by professor Yu Su surpassing SOTA on many benchmarks. It is also exciting that UGround, the new grounding framework for automation is also open sourced and is available on Hugging Face. Monday musing: air travel has six 9s uptime vs. three or four 9s uptime for cloud service providers and one 9 (?) for GenAI accuracy. I’m grateful for this mature, everyday technology that two owners of a bike shop pioneered 121 years ago - and that generations of innovators made it increasingly reliable over the years. Some numbers of interest: > A plane has a 1 in 5.4 million chance of going down per flight. Hence my six 9s estimate (and feel free to correct the math!) > A plane passenger has a 1 in 13 million chance of dying in a crash. > Cloud service providers have about three 9s availability SLAs.
