I love how companies are getting creative with equity in 2024. It’s something I think startups can better leverage. Take this example I saw in a recent webinar: Public companies are slashing four-year new hire grants down to 2-3 years. To help ease the lesser value of 100k vesting over 4 years, a company might offer 75k vesting over 2-3 years. Pave reported this as the biggest trend in how companies are shifting their equity strategies in response to volatile and tighter markets. Candidates love it for the faster payout. Companies benefit from reducing their equity spend. But beyond this one change… We’re in the middle of a metamorphosis for equity program design. We’re seeing companies be creative and remain competitive in today’s market despite the tighter grip on VC. This is how they’re changing it up: * new hire grants * vesting schedules * how much equity we give based on location, role, and performance * percentage of equity comp vs base salary What do you think of these new trends?
