Rather than relying purely on knowledge developed during training, apps equipped with RAG can retrieve information most relevant to a user’s prompt from an external knowledge base (think 10-K filings, public announcements, recent news), then add that information to the prompt before sending it to the generative model. AI, and particularly genAI, cannot work without data. Not just any data either -- the latest, the greatest, the most current data possible. Confluent's annual Data Streaming Report, released yesterday, shows precisely how IT leaders view these pieces working together in their overall business strategy and priorities. In fact, as covered by The New Stack: "Data streaming platforms are essential for adopting AI/machine learning at enterprise scale, according to nearly two-thirds of IT leaders." And "The top reasons why data streaming helps AI/ML, according to the survey results, are that it ensures that ingested data meets quality standards, helps keep Al models up to date and tracks data for governance purposes." Fifty-one percent of IT leaders told Confluent that data streaming technology is a top strategic priority for their organizations in 2024, while 46% said AI and machine learning are top priorities.
