How can News organizations, networks and local stations groups create more content, more efficiently, and with better quality? 1- Virtual #extendedreality and #augmentedreality environments on LED studios are at the forefront of the technology adoption that is making immersive experiences the gateway for a new storytelling reality. 2- How the news and local content is going to be produced to engage younger audiences in the near future is beyond today's physical and green screen studios and way closer to a gamified LED XR immersive content experience without creative boundaries.

Nov. 2nd—Day 2 Recap: #TPAFF brought engaging discussions, including the “Distribution & Liberation Panel,” where I was honored to speak. Together, we explored how transmedia is transforming film distribution, especially after the pandemic and industry strikes. Our panel also included the amazing Danny Torres from NBCUniversal, writer/director/producer Derek Johnson II and powerhouse producer Romaine A. Simon which delved into the “liberation” of distribution channels—how filmmakers are finding new freedom to reach global audiences directly through streaming services, VOD, SVOD, TVOD, and even social media, bypassing traditional gatekeepers. We highlighted the rise of hybrid release models, combining theatrical, streaming, and online premieres to expand viewership and profitability. Monetization was another key theme as we discussed new revenue models like subscription tiers, ad-supported content, and crowd-funded releases that give creators more options to thrive in the changing media landscape. Is your brand in a pickle? Maybe it's time to look at pickleball. Yes, Pickleball is still the fastest growing sport out there and the licensing opportunities are barely being explored. Sports companies have been the major early adopters and they rushed to develop rackets and other equipment as fast as their factories could glue them together. Remember when Nike almost folded in the 80's because it ignored aerobics as a fad? Well, Nike is not looking to repeat that mistake. Neither is adidas, ASICS, Wilson Sporting Goods Co., Skechers, or a dozen other smaller shoe companies. Already estimated at over $500 million dollars, Pickleball is set to predicted to continue its dominance for years to come. "Ticket prices are just astronomical right now," said David "5-1" Norman, an industry veteran who has toured with Prince, Green Day, and Alicia Keys. Why? Artists have lost their main revenue stream. Music and album sales Platforms like Spotify and Apple Music don't paint the full picture. No one knows what a certain amount of streams equates to. It's not an accurate depiction of what an artist is actually making. So where has the artist turned to to make up for this loss in revenue? Live Events. They have lifestyles to upkeep, and albums to produce and so they've got to make it back somehow. But who bears the cost? The event promoters and the fans do. Promoters are taking on even more financial risk to front these artist requests and simply to break even they have to charge the fans extortionate amounts of money. I mean the average ticket price for a Taylor Swift concert is over $1000. It becomes a financial planning decision to watch your favorite artist live. The current model is broken. MARTIN GROVE'S HOLLYWOOD REPORT FOR 12/1/24: A Martian who landed in L.A. Thanksgiving weekend would likely be texting home that theatrical exhibition is an amazing business and he wants to buy some cinemas if he can pay with Bitcoins.   With the five day holiday boxoffice hitting a massive estimated $420M, per Comscore, it's easy to see why the Martian and everyone else knows moviegoing isn't dead. Of course, had our Martian had a faster spaceship and landed in mid-October, he'd have seen empty multiplexes and would be excited about going into streaming.   The real difference between JOKER 2's implosion in October and today's sizzling boxoffice is that the studios are now playing films moviegoers want to see. The resulting ticket sales should be giving Wall Street second thoughts about having pushed Hollywood to abandon exhibition and undertake the crushing costs of streaming.   Driven by MOANA 2, WICKED & GLADIATOR II, this weekend's domestic marketplace totaled $271.1M for three days, per Comscore Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian, up 32.4% from the prior weekend and up 176% vs. this time last year. Comscore's year to date tally has 2024 at $7.78B, down 6.4% from $8.31B in 2023. The previous weekend in 2024 was down 10.7% vs. 2023.   Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Disney's PG animated comedy adventure MOANA 2 sailed into 4,200 theatres with $135.5M for three days ($32,262) and $221M for five days, per Comscore. Hollywood buzz-ards were projecting not so long ago just $100M for three days & $135M for five days! The sequel, which delivered the all-time biggest five day launch, did $165.3M internationally and has a worldwide cume of $388.3M. M2 started out to be a Disney+ series but became a theatrical feature instead when research pointed to boxoffice potential.    M2's tracking best for first choice with under 25 women (21 points over norm) and next best with women over 25 (11 points over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics don't like it at 65%, but audiences are happier at 87%.   Universal/Marc Platt Productions' PG fantasy musical romance WICKED was #2 in weekend 2 with $80M for three days (29%) at 3,888 theatres ($20,576). The Jon M. Chu film reportedly cost $150M to produce and has done $262.4M domestic and $359.3M worldwide. WICKED 2, also budgeted at $150M, will be in theatres for Thanksgiving 2025.   Paramount/Scott Free Productions' R rated historical action adventure GLADIATOR II was third in weekend two with $30.7M (-44%) for three days at 3,580 theatres ($8,575). The Fox Corporation has always been a very intriguing topic of conversation for me in entertainment because of the press and the stigmatism around the company. In an article written by Alex Weprin, The Hollywood Reporter goes into explaining the revenue boost that the Fox Corporation has experienced this election cycle due to the paid political advertisements on their national and local networks. According to Weprin, “Fox reported revenues of $3.56 billion, up 11 percent from a year earlier, including advertising revenues of more than $1.3 billion, also up 11 percent.”  This is promising news for Fox, and the rest of the linear television companies, because political ads have proven to provide a valuable source of revenue, offsetting the industry-wide shift to streaming platforms. While the streaming epidemic is still upon us, political ads have provided linear television companies with a temporary but reliable revenue source this election cycle. The election cycle keeps linear television alive and relevant, but it also distinguishes the priority of cable news networks to cover current events such as elections or breaking news over streaming platforms which rely more on libraries and intellectual property (IP) from the parent companies that operate them. Another factor that could point to the revenue generated for Fox Corp. during this year's election cycle is the brand and political ideology the company has crafted for itself. Since the inception of Fox News, the network has always been a one-stop-shop for conservative news drawing in large numbers of viewers who are dedicated to the GOP. This aspect, coupled with a candidate such as Mr. Donald Trump, and a politically divided nation, draws in even more viewers to their broadcast throughout the months leading up to the election and weeks after.  Overall. I believe that this is a big win for linear television because of the neglect that it has received from the lack of faith that media conglomerates have in their networks and the push to move to digital. This article provides a temporary solution for the problems facing the linear television business providing a significant revenue boost to company bottom lines while also showing the importance of linear television during political campaigns and election cycles. An interesting update on what Disney's streaming division profit might mean for the TV industry from Guy Bisson at Ampere Analysis "Disney's results show that that transition [from linear to streaming] is now in full swing: as with other studios (and linear channel businesses around the world), Disney's linear business is in fairly sharp decline (revenues dropped 10% in the past six months against a year earlier). There is no going back from here." Could it mean an end to this cost cutting round and a cautious return to investing in new originals? "One thing that has never changed about the on-demand streaming model, though, is its voracious appetite for fresh content. Original production is a key part of that and with pressure now easing on costs, some resurgence of original production must surely follow." Let's hope this is corner turned! Kudos to Adam SIlver and the NBA! The NBA has now finalized its media rights deals with Amazon, Disney and NBCUniversal, which are set to generate an estimated $76 billion over 11 years, beginning with the season ending in 2026. Disney will keep the rights to show the NBA Finals exclusively, Amazon will have global rights to 66 regular-season NBA games, including an opening week doubleheader and a new Black Friday game. Amazon continues to make waves in live sports streaming by adding NBA and WNBA coverage to its existing Thursday Night Football NFL deal. This is a HUGE deal symbolizing where the sports media industry is heading. Streaming continues to become a major focus for content delivery with platforms like Netflix and Amazon both taking territory. Both will require robust technological infrastructure and trusted sports broadcasting expertise in order to provide viewers globally with a reliable and stable streaming experience.
