Bioelectrical approaches to cancer as a problem of the scaling of the cellular self. Progress in biophysics and molecular biology, 165, 102-113. https://lnkd.in/eDxGcwSc ___ What I think Michael means in this citation above is that in cancer the cell become encapsulated, it closes the gap junctions, which leads to loss of communications with the neighbor cells, which, in turn, leads to the fragmentation of "identity" - the cell that had been a part of the collective identity of the entire cell collective regressed into being a single-cell organism. (There is no cell collective when communications are impaired) Once this cell became isolated from neighbors, it starts treating the rest of the cells as the external environment ( e.g. food) and it reproduces itself, leading to metastasis. This is not just an opinion, Levin's lab conducted experiments where they triggered a metastatic melanoma in a frog JUST by closing the cell's gap junctions. - no genetic changes, no carcinogens - just by isolating one cell from the neighbors, that's it. Most importantly, in their experiments they were able to prevent and normalize the tumors made from human oncogenes in a frog by... forcibly reconnecting the cells back to their neighbors. Of course, each kind of cancer is diverse, super complex and we have more questions than answers, but I think Levin's work is super impressive and hopefully can lead to treatments.  __ What do you think?

Despite its relatively rare occurrence, schizophrenia remains one of the most well-known mental health disorders. While this disorder is most prevalent among young adults, it can still strike teens and adolescents. Schizophrenia can lead to hallucinations, difficulties thinking, and changes in behavior. When teenagers develop this condition, doctors can struggle to tell it apart from normal teen behavior or mental health problems. This makes it tough for teens to get help.
