Slim allows developers to inspect, optimize, and debug their containers using its xray, lint, build, debug, run, images, merge, registry, vulnerability (and other) commands. It simplifies and improves your developer experience building, customizing and using containers. It makes your containers better, smaller and more secure while providing advanced visibility and improved usability working with the original and minified containers. Don't change anything in your container image; minify it by up to 30x to make it secure, too! Optimizing images isn't the only thing it can do, though. It can also help you understand and author better container images. Keep doing what you are doing. No need to change anything. Use the base image you want. Use the package manager you want. Don't worry about hand-optimizing your Dockerfile. You shouldn't have to throw away your tools and your workflow to have small container images. As #apisummit24 completes with over 10,000 attendees from the API community - making it the largest API conference by far - with dozens of awesome product and partner launches to show what we can do with *the API platform for the AI era*... one fundamental question remains open: Are you on the right side of AI? One thing we know for sure... APIs are the common language of LLMs as we build apps and transform our business with {Gen} AI. Task-specific models and routing architectures are the future. Robert Nishihara, co-founder and CEO of Anyscale, is seeing hybrid strategies emerge, where businesses are evaluating different types of models for different use cases. With the rapid advancement of AI tech, it won't be long before open-source models are "good enough" for the majority of business tasks. The natural progression from here is to develop smaller, task-focused models using proprietary company data. As Robert puts it: "You're going to need small, fast models. And task-specific models have a huge advantage when it comes to cost and speed because you can achieve the same quality with a smaller model if it's specialized." Another interesting development: the growing use of routing architectures. Imagine a classifier as a kind of traffic controller for your AI queries. It assesses the complexity of each query and directs it to the most suitable model: simpler requests are handled by smaller models, while complex ones are passed on to larger, more sophisticated models. “If you do it right,” Robert says, “you can achieve something like the cost of the smaller model with the quality of the more advanced model.” Dive deeper into AI architecture trends in my full discussion with Robert on the B2BaCEO podcast here: https://lnkd.in/ghigvERn

One of the fasciating aspects of #opensource is that like minded individuals can collaborate on things they care about. When #SparkConnect was announced, our Zingg world went for a toss 😭 Our Python API relied on the older architecture of Spark and stopped working on its newer versions. Our users could not build Zingg Customer 360 views and we lost some sleep 💤 . Well quite a bit of it actually 😴 . We guided them to continue using supported versions, while looking for the right approach to write our api, from scratch. Enter Sem Sinchenko who collaborated with the Databricks team and volunteered to build and maintain the new Zingg Python API on Spark Connect. “AI-First” Design is the Future of Application Development It’s becoming clear that simply tacking on AI features to existing workflows is not enough to unlock their full potential. Just as mobile applications were transformed by the shift to a “mobile-first” design philosophy, today’s applications need to be reimagined from the ground up with an “AI-first” mentality. A decade ago, as mobile devices became ubiquitous, companies found that they couldn’t just retrofit desktop apps for smaller screens; they had to rethink the user experience for mobile. I see this same shift happening with AI. Companies that bake AI into the DNA of their products stand out, while those that merely bolt on chat and LLM features may find themselves falling behind. Take a classic example: forms. These are everywhere in application design, and most are terrible because they force the user to conform to rigid questions and formats. Consider e-commerce. If I want “a blue bicycle for a 12-year-old girl that’s really safe and has great ratings,” it takes me 10 seconds to type, but navigating through filters, clicking options, and reading reviews could take much longer. An AI-first approach would act as an agent on user needs and streamline that journey—transforming an exhausting task into a seamless experience. However, shifting to an AI-first design isn’t without its challenges. Existing workflows are often deeply ingrained in technical debt, making it difficult for companies to rethink processes at a foundational level. But those willing to disrupt the status quo will be the ones driving meaningful innovation. How to Get Started: Embracing an AI-first mindset doesn’t mean overhauling everything at once. Start small, but think big. Identify key areas where AI can have the most impact—whether it’s personalizing experiences, automating tasks, or improving decision-making. From there, build AI-driven solutions that elevate the entire user journey, rather than just tweaking existing features. A New Standard: AI-first design isn’t just an advantage—it’s the new standard. Companies that fully adopt AI into their product experience will create smarter, faster, and more intuitive products that resonate with users and set them apart in the market. This is more than a trend; it’s a shift in how we think about and build for the future.

Correlatable, contextualized, timely – in a recent SeeMetrics webinar our VP Product Roi Alon shared the keys to making security metrics work for you. Hint: It’s not about what should be in your basket of metrics though that’s important. The secret lies in the “how” – a multi-level approach correlating data from different tools, placing the results in security and business contexts, and providing insights that are complete, consistent, and decidable.
