As a member of YALI (Young African Leaders Initiative) Akwa Ibom State Hub, it was a privilege to attend the 2024 National YALI Summit. The theme for this year’s event was “Localizing Global Impact”, which shows the importance of empowering individuals like us to be catalysts for change in our communities and beyond. During the panel sessions, I was particularly inspired by the insights shared by fellow delegates. Favour Michael William highlighted the critical need for vocational training in Nigeria, stressing that education alone isn't enough. There should be calls for partnerships between the government and private sectors to address unemployment struck a chord with me. It's clear that if we want to tackle the unemployment crisis, we need to think beyond traditional education and invest in skill development. Victor Ubani's emphasis on the urgent need for political leaders to engage with climate concerns in Africa was a powerful reminder that sustainable development cannot happen in isolation. Our leaders must be active participants in these conversations if we hope to see real change. The question "If the leaders of tomorrow are currently faced with insecurity, what happens to our tomorrow?"—echoed in my mind long after the session. Godwin Effiong brought an important perspective on global governance, emphasizing the need to streamline our institutions to better serve society. The idea of establishing research centres across Nigeria could drive innovation and governance reforms from the grassroots. Lastly, By investing in startups and fostering interest in fields like Robotics and AI, we can secure a brighter future for our youth. A big shout out to Marvelene Ekott, for overseeing the publication of our first magazine. Welldone Ma’am. The YALI Summit has once again reinforced that we, as young leaders, have the power to shape the future. We must take these insights to heart and work tirelessly to localize global impact in our communities. #Self-Awareness and My Learning Journey in Data Analysis* Reflecting on my journey through the 3mttNigeria and NitdaNigeria programs, self-awareness has emerged as a cornerstone of my growth. This introspection has revealed profound insights about my personal development, strengths, and areas for improvement, all of which have significantly influenced my performance and learning experience. #Discovering My True Self Throughout the program, I have learned that my curiosity and drive for knowledge are among my greatest assets. I thrive in collaborative environments, often finding that engaging with peers enhances my understanding of complex data concepts. However, I also recognized a tendency to rush through tasks, driven by a desire to complete assignments quickly. This self-awareness prompted me to prioritize quality over speed, allowing me to produce more thoughtful and thorough analyses. # Strengths and Weaknesses in Performance. Understanding my strengths, such as analytical thinking and teamwork, has bolstered my confidence in participating actively in group projects. I often took the initiative to lead discussions and facilitate group learning, which not only solidified my own knowledge but also helped my peers. Conversely, my weakness in time management sometimes led to last-minute stress. # Overcoming Challenges with Self-Awareness Self-awareness has been instrumental in overcoming challenges. For instance, during a particularly difficult data visualization project, I felt overwhelmed by the complexity of the data. Recognizing my anxiety, I took a step back and reassessed my approach. I sought feedback from mentors and peers, which not only alleviated my stress but also provided me with new perspectives on the task. #Specific Examples of Growth One specific instance that exemplifies my growth through self-awareness occurred during a peer review session. I was privileged to be chosen by The Incubator Hub Nigeria to participate in a Bootcamp at Redemption Camp. Below are the details of the personal project work given to us by our instructor, Temidayo TeeDee AYENI and Iyanuoluwa Adeniji for the Data Analysis class using Power BI. Future Clan Data Analysis Survey Report Overview The Future Clan Data Analysis Survey provides insights into the demographics and educational background of 167 students, segmented by various criteria such as gender, age range, residential location, and highest level of education. Key Metrics * Total Students Surveyed: 167 * Gender Distribution: - Males: 97 (58.08%) - Females: 70 (41.92%) Detailed Analysis 1. Occupation by Highest Level of Education The majority of students have a HND/BSc as their highest level of education. The distribution is as follows: * SSCE: Low count * OND: Low count * HND/BSc: Highest count (around 140) * MSc: Moderate count 2. Count of Occupation by Age Range The age distribution of students indicates: * Under 25: Moderate count * 26–35: Highest count (nearly 100) * 36–40: Very low count * Over 40: Very low count 3. Count of Marital Status by Gender * Males: 97 * Females: 70 4. Count of Group Number by Residential Location (State) Students are primarily concentrated in Lagos, followed by other states with significantly lower counts: * Lagos: Highest count (approximately 50) * Ogun: Moderate count * Other states (Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Delta, FCT, Edo, Anambra, Kogi, Niger, Rivers): Lower counts 5. Nigerians, Independence Day Calls for Deep Reflection, Not Just Celebration For many nations, Independence Day is a time of celebration of sovereignty, progress, and achievement. However, as a dedicated data analyst and a concerned nationalist, I struggle to find reasons for us to truly celebrate after 64 years of independence. When we analyze the key pillars that define national success—our economy, healthcare, education, and security—Nigeria consistently falls short. If you notice "1st" in the charts below, it’s not a mark of pride, but a glaring indication of failure. The rest of the data offers little comfort; in fact, in several areas, we are regressing rather than advancing. In these six decades, we have yet to secure any meaningful achievements in sectors that we can genuinely be proud of. On the contrary, the signs suggest a continual decline in our national development. It is time for us to awaken. The transformation of Nigeria must begin with each of us, starting with a change in our collective mindset. If we want to spare future generations from enduring a life even more difficult than our own, we must act today. Tomorrow is too late—our journey of change must start now. WEEK 12 REFLECTION ON MY LEARNING TRACK TOPIC :Data Standardization Challenges in My Power BI Project In my recent Power BI project, I encountered a significant challenge: standardizing course names across various Nigerian universities. This issue hindered my ability to provide accurate insights and visualizations. In this article, I'll share how I approached and solved this problem, showcasing my critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The Challenge: Different universities used varying course names, making it difficult to create a unified dataset. For instance, "Accounting" and "Accountancy/Accounting" referred to the same course. My Approach: 1.Research and Standardization: I compiled a comprehensive list of courses, identifying synonyms and variations. 2.Course Mapping: I created a mapping system to link variations to a standardized course ID. 3.Fuzzy Matching: I implemented fuzzy matching algorithms to account for minor variations in course names. Solution and Outcome: By applying these strategies, I successfully standardized course names, enabling accurate visualizations and insights. Users can now search for courses and view offering universities, regardless of name variations. Conclusion: This experience taught me the importance of data standardization and creative problem-solving. I hope my approach inspires others facing similar challenges. Data analysis is ever a potent, relevant skill to possess for a project team to make proper, positive decisions. Here is a visualisation of the Nigerian states by population for year 2006 and 2023. A great many changes had occured within the first 17 years after the first set of datas were collected. While the number of states remained at 37 plus the federal capital territory, population in 2023 had increased by 89m. The least populated state in 2006 had a total population of 1.4m however by 2023, it was no longer the least populated state yet the least populated state had increased by a whooping 600,000 to a total of 2m. Data Analytics is such a potent tool in understanding the world we live in and everything therein. I submitted this two page report for the DSNai - Data Science Nigeria x Microsoft Hackathon and Project Participation for Power BI, where we tackled a dynamic sales dataset for a superstore in the United States for the first half of 2015. Our goal? To dive deep into sales performance and profitability across various dimensions. Here’s how I set out to create the report with Power BI: ✅ Detailed Comparisons: I set up comparisons to effortlessly track actual sales against previous periods, providing clarity on performance and profitability trends. ✅ Quick Insights: Leveraged conditional formatting to highlight key changes in performance—no need to sift through endless data manually. ✅ Revenue and percentage profit margin trend for performance and profitability. ✅ Dynamic Filters: Implemented field parameters to easily analyze the most and least performing and profitable product categories (with sub-categories), regions (states and cities), and customer segments (with customers) over different months. ✅ Hierarchical Analysis: Enabled detailed drill-down and highlight tools to explore data hierarchies, from product categories to regions, and customer segments, helping stakeholders understand performance and profitability in depth. The result? A user-friendly, self-service two-page Power BI report that empowers stakeholders to access and analyze insights independently. By the end of this year, I plan to start working on small projects that apply these tools to Fintech data, such as building dashboards or predictive models for fraud detection. Year 2: Building a Portfolio In the second year, my focus will shift towards practical experience. I’ll actively contribute to open-source projects on platforms like GitHub, showcasing my skills by solving real-world data problems. I’ll also participate in data science competitions on Kaggle, where I can gain valuable experience and exposure to various challenges in data modeling. At this stage, I’ll begin developing a portfolio that demonstrates my capability in handling fintech-specific problems like customer behavior analysis and fraud prevention. A couple of days ago I attended the Climate, Conflict and Fragility Summit,organized by Clean Tech Hub Nigeria. I had the privilege of listening to well experienced and respected personalities who spoke extensively on Climate, Migration and Conflict in Nigeria and GlobalContext. Amongst this impeccable speakers were Bishop Mathew Kukah, Sheik Nurudeen, Mrs Ifeoma Malo and other very powerful women. All of these speakers spoke from diverse perspectives in the fight against climate change and a few things to note were ; 1. The debate about the environment in Africa is the debate about human comfort. 2. In the words of Bishop " the structural built up of our country predisposes us as a nation to conflict" 3. Institutionalization of religious bodies as a constructive tool in the fight against climate change. I was so much impressed with this view as Reverend Dr James Movel also reiterated an occasion where he charged a congregation he visited to plant over 2,000 trees as covenant to mark his visit to the community and today the community is an exporter of cash crops. My question was on the role of the Nigerian government with emphasis on the fact that to win the fight against climate change, our approaches has to be wholistic , that's involving the people, government and other civil organizations. The tropical rain forest in Nigeria is continuously being exploited on a daily basis as travels across communities would expose the tons of timbers been openly transported with collaborations between local governments and marketers and I believe the irresponsibility of the government in enforcement of climate change laws is not only undermining the efforts of civil organizations and individuals in winning this fight, this irresponsibilities expands to the regulation of other instruments in the fight against climate change that has reduced the early adoption of climate friendly alternatives like in the energy sector. So therefore, how long will the government continue in this irresponsibility and as people what can we do better to bring the Nigeria government to terms with the current realities so as to have a balance in winning the fight against climate change ?

JOURNEY SO FAR Over the past 11 weeks, my journey in data analysis at the Cypherdevs academy for 3MTT Nigeria, has been exhilarating. A key achievement has been gaining confidence in using Python for data analysis, a skill I once found “hard to learn” but now see as “best buddy” for my goal of providing actionable insights on climate and water management through the LadyFarmer platform. Thanks to CYPHERDEVS TECHNOLOGIES and 3MTT Nigeria community’s support, I can now clean, visualize, and explore data effectively, which brings me closer to empowering farmers with data-driven climate-smart strategies. The biggest challenge has been mastering SQL and MySQL Workbench, it was a roller coaster of emotions that week! especially as I’m new to integrating SQL with Python for complex queries. Despite this, I’m steadily progressing, and each step forward strengthens my analytical foundation. My next line of action is refining these SQL skills to improve my ability to analyze and interpret climate and agriculture data more precisely. Our sole mission is to help people see and understand data. - Tableau©️ 2003 Hi Everyone, I would like to thank those who made it to the Tableau©️ Saturday CoLab Innovation Hub, Kaduna in-person event, especially our host Sanusi Ismaila and tutor Peter Okwukogu aka Pablo. Peter took us on a journey through, Tableau public, Geopandas, maps, density maps, line graphs, overlapping line graphs, multiple rows graphs, show me, sheets, measures and dimensions, and bar charts. On Tableau, you can represent data as discrete or continuous. We looked at sheets, Measures and Dimensions. We also looked at Dashboards in Tableau public. We had first-timers in the class and, we went over key points in previous events such as creating a Tableau account, Downloading Tableau, Installing Tableau public, Setting up Tableau public, connecting data to Tableau Public and basic data visualization in Tableau public. We talked about properties of connected data like SQL and how it functions in Tableau as/with VizQL. A data set was connected and we did a partial insertion of columns of a text file content to the Tableau sheet. It was the same week as Tableau Conference #Data24 , from April 29 to 2nd May 2024, the highlights include Einstein Copilot for Tableau, Tableau Pulse, Tableau ( Desktop) Public Edition Local file save, Tableau on Hyperforce, Next Generation of Tableau powered by Einstein and not to be left out was the #ironViz championship finals. The Opening Keynote was by President and CEO of Tableau Ryan Aytay Other Speakers are Elizabeth Maxson Martinet, Kayne Johnson, Esther S. , Walid Mehanna , Southard Jones, Padmashree Koneti , Matthew Miller, Sophia G. , Celine Murugi , Carolina Fontenelle de Mello e Souza mentioned were Chantilly Jaggernauth, Gurpreet Singh , Agata Ketterick , Ela Piwowarska I will talk about other highlights in my subsequent posts. During the workshop, questions were asked on connecting data. We discussed the various types of data available to Tableau. We used a text file data set and an Excel file to describe the process, the structure of the imported data and the steps to take to get visuals from that data. We rounded up the event with clarity on the benefits of visualization to businesses (profit or loss).
