They must strike the right balance as a player-coach—managing their team, being a great salesperson, and consistently coaching their team to better performance. Based on a recent study, more than 75% of sales leaders identify coaching as a top activity to impact their team's performance. Unfortunately, over 75% feel they do not dedicate nearly enough time to coaching. Being time-starved is a reality. They invest in their own development and continuously seek ways to improve their coaching skills. Here are some tips to integrate effective coaching into your routine: #1 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬: Break It Down: Divide coaching into manageable segments. Focus on one aspect of improvement at a time rather than being overwhelmed with too much at once. Use Templates and Frameworks: Employ coaching templates to streamline your sessions, ensuring consistency and efficiency. We leverage the GROW model with our clients - it is simple, easy to remember, and it works for most coaching situations. #2 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐃𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: Embed in Routine: Incorporate brief coaching moments into daily operations, like morning huddles, debriefs after calls, and team meetings. Encourage Peer Coaching: Promote a culture where team members support and coach each other. During team meetings and pipeline deal reviews, encourage them to contribute helpful ideas, provide feedback, and ask questions. #3 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤: Use Coaching Tools: Utilize digital tools and platforms designed for coaching, such as CRM systems with integrated feedback features or coaching apps. Call Recording and Group Call Reviews: Record sales calls and meetings for later review, providing tangible examples for coaching discussions. Have your reps mastered the five most critical skills of selling?   The first critical skill is to make sure your reps understand and are applying the steps of a sales call so they have control and structure talking with buyers.   The second critical skill is to make sure reps are following a defined multiple-stepped selling process from the time they identify a new opportunity until closing on the sale.
