There are excellent and detailed resources for journalists to research munitions. What makes OSMP so useful for investigative reporters is that it helps identify weapons systems the way journalists and, more importantly, victims and media sources typically encounter them: as steel fin blades or blackened wiring or charred cylinders scattered near bomb craters.

AT&T has proposed to relocate the CBRS band and hold a reverse auction to evict PAL licence holders. As is expected, this has been bet my fierce opposition from CBRS users who are outraged at the plans. Full details in Mirva Villa's story below. IMO it is an odd proposal. The CBRS band is now well established in the US, and there have not been any hints that the FCC is interested in a radical change. In fact, the regulator often boasts about CBRS internationally and has actually been working to make a series of minor improvements to the regime, hinting at its long term commitment to the idea. That being said, measuring the "success" of CBRS is difficult. Yes, the band is providing value to thousands of licensees, but it is also possible that if we are measuring success by the number of sites, mobile operators could make more extensive use of the band. (Although this is likely a flawed measure of success). It will be up to the FCC to decide what is a better use, but evidence so far does suggest they are committed to maintaining a diverse cohort of users in CBRS.

On Friday, September 20, 2024, the Department of Defense awarded fourteen Defense Community Infrastructure Program (DCIP) grants from the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, totaling approximately $100 million. DCIP is a competitive program for states, territories, and communities to undertake infrastructure enhancements to support military value, the training of cadets at independent "covered educational institutions," installation resiliency, and/or family quality of life that benefits their local installations. The City of Copperas Cove, Texas was awarded $10,308,877 to undertake a project to construct road improvements for better installation access and to reduce traffic congestion, increase safety and security, and improve surface deployments. This project will support the facilitation capabilities for future larger-scale enhancements, such as a regional multi-modal transportation hub, which will benefit both Fort Cavazos and the community at large, enhancing readiness, resilience, and quality of life for service members, families, and surrounding communities. Today the ISR Task Force partnered with WTOP News, the Federal News Network, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, United States Space Force, and Planet Federal to discuss the critical topic of Broad Area Management and its impact on the safety and security of our nation. In the round table discussion, we touched on the imperative of #teamwork in Integrated Deterrence while also discussing some of the more tangible ways the services are investing in solutions to deliver enhanced situational understanding around the world. The US Army Intelligence enterprise, under the direction of Lieutenant General Tony Hale, is working hard to deliver horizontally integrated capabilities at a pace and scale that matches the tempo of the modern operational environment. To optimize these systems, we’ve been directed to develop strategies for wide-adoption and implementation of Artificial Intelligence capabilities into human-centric workflows. Soon the world currency will be measured in TPUs and GPUs. #Data centricity is a thing, and embracing it is what separates visionary leaders from everyone else. We wrap up this week with a conversation with Congressman Ken Calvert (R-CA) - a partner on Capitol Hill who is “all in” on AI investments.
