Ah, the disavow tool. You already know how I feel about this. :) Well, Cyrus S. just ran another experiment where he disavowed every link to his site. He did this before, but now did it again. So what happened? Nothing. Literally nothing. Note, Cyrus covers how link count in GSC dropped heavily after disavowing, only to surge back, but that was a bug impacting many sites. Barry covered that in several posts (and I covered it too on X). So why didn't Cyrus drop at all rankings-wise? Hard to say for sure, but could be a number of things. E.g. Google continuing to count the link signals even though the links were disavowed, maybe Google didn't recrawl all of the links yet (I doubt that's the case but possible), maybe it reflects the decreasing power of links overall (although he nuked ALL links). Only Google really knows... Muahahaha. Regardless, please stop disavowing links unless you really need to. E.g. you have a manual action, you participated in some link scheme, etc. And like I have explained before, I truly believe Google will remove the Disavow Tool, and maybe soon. It's really a waste of time for 99.99% of site owners. #google #seo

Just received word that DealerOn has completed their acquisition of Sincro, a DealerOn company. The biggest question in any acquisition is Why. It's generally 1 of 2 things More rooftops to insert current systems and expand market share, or new technologies to incorporate into the current book of business and grow revenue. As an active DealerOn affiliate, I'm curious to see what happens over the next 6 months. Could be good. Could be bad. Does anyone have experience with Sincro sites or services? I haven't worked with them enough to draw any conclusions. #automotive #website #acquisition

Great work from Rich Sanger SEO and Laurence O'Toole, and it's closer to what I'm seeing with my own AI Overview tracking across companies. "21.1% of Queries Trigger Overviews: Out of 11,163 analyzed queries, 21.1% (2,358) triggered an AI Overview, with each summary containing an average of 8.9 links." "Overlap with Search Results: 46.3% of the documents linked in the summaries were from the top organic search results for the exact match query." Last month 14,000+ pages of Google's Search API was leaked to a well known and well respected SEO expert, Rand Fishkin. Since then, the SEO and tech community have been combing over the documents to better understand ranking factors and the SEO implications. It's important to note: -Even with 14k+ pages, this is still a limited scope to a much larger algorithm. -The leak did not include the weight of each ranking factor. -The impact of this leak is uncertain. Google is continually updating the algorithm to keep in line with their core values of UX, and SEO's not gaming the algorithm.
