SIGN OUR PETITION! Say Yes to Energy Choice!  A broad coalition is collecting signatures to place I-2066 on the November ballot to protect natural gas as an energy choice, ensure energy stability and security, and prohibit natural gas bans in Washington. The Problem: Recent actions by the Washington State Legislature have put in jeopardy the safety, comfort, and security of residents throughout the state. The unrelenting effort to ban natural gas will expose Washingtonians to the risk of becoming victims of the very thing these efforts are supposed to prevent. Banning natural gas removes a reliable and efficient source for warmth, for specialized ways of preparing cultural cuisine, and for simply providing hot water. When the extreme whether events that proponents say are coming do happen, Washington residents are at risk of truly being left in the cold. The facts of the matter are that the push for full electrification without first recognizing that we need to build out the infrastructure and capacity to get there will create a state of emergency of our own making. Here is what you can do: 1. Support the efforts to get I-2066 on the November ballot by, 2. Signing one of the many petitions available at locations across the state. Take a few blank petitions of your own and gather signatures from everyone you know that is a registered voter in the state (including family, friends, co-workers, etc.). 3. Encourage others to gather signatures by presenting petitions to all your local social groups, volunteer groups, and others. High levels of building electrification are expected to create a significant challenge for recovering the costs of California's gas system, potentially leading to very high gas rates for customers who are unable to electrify. Major changes to gas infrastructure planning and cost recovery will be needed to support a managed transition that limits adverse cost impacts for ratepayers. Although California was an early leader in identifying the need for a gas transition, other states have since implemented a range of actions to manage gas system spending and update cost recovery mechanisms to support a managed transition. This presents an opportunity to learn from other states and inform the scoping of a new gas planning proceeding that just launched at the California Public Utilities Commission. In a new white paper funded by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), E3 reviewed gas transition proceedings in other states and identified five focus areas for near-term action (see chart). 📉🚗💸 California’s climate policies continue to fail consumers, adding financial strain without delivering clear benefits! 🌱💵The latest example is the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, a little-known program that could significantly hike gasoline prices next year. The state initially reported that these changes could increase gas prices by a staggering 47 cents per gallon by 2025. Despite repeated warnings and concerns from experts, California consistently fails to address the additional costs this program will impose on consumers. We’re excited that the Coalition for Renewable Natural Gas recently welcomed news that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) is making strides toward a cleaner, more sustainable future by proposing modifications to the state’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS). DO NOT PLACE YOUR BATTERIES IN THE TRASH! Batteries, specifically lithium batteries, can become a safety issue for the waste management industry. When these batteries aren’t properly recycled, they can cause fires in our trucks, but WHY? Lithium batteries can catch on fire through a process known as “thermal runaway” which happens when a battery short circuits and heats up uncontrollably. When this happens, the battery expels flammable and toxic gases that may cause fires or explosions. These fires are challenging to extinguish because the batteries generate their oxygen. This is why it's imperative to recycle your batteries properly!

The Bureau of Land Management is reducing the waste of natural gas from venting, flaring, and leaks during oil and gas production on federal and #Tribal lands. BLM finalized the Waste Prevention, Production Subject to Royalties, and Resource Conservation Rule—also known as the Waste Prevention Rule—this month, building on years of technological advances and best management practices. The rule is expected to generate more than $50 million in additional natural gas royalty payments each year and conserve billions of cubic feet of gas that might have otherwise been vented, flared, or leaked from operators. This conserved gas will be available to power American homes and industries. Curtailed energy can be, and in fact, perfectly suitable for electrolysis, i.e. green hydrogen production! In California, the CAISO market is experiencing an increase in negative power prices due to oversupply from renewable energy sources, particularly solar. This occurs when production exceeds demand, leading producers to pay consumers to take excess electricity. Contributing factors include inflexible generation sources, grid constraints, and market incentives. This trend has significant implications for the power market and investor signals.
