Arkansas Carports is expanding & had clear objectives: they wanted a straightforward website to display their projects and streamline their quoting process. Though not complex, this project was crucial for their business operations. However, what should have been a typical two-week web build stretched to a month due to project management missteps. That's on me. Initially, we didn’t establish a concrete deadline, which led to a lack of urgency and drift. This experience underscored the importance of setting clear timelines and managing tasks effectively from the start. For the first two weeks, we worked without a solid task schedule, causing delays. Once we refocused and set a clear timeline, the project gained momentum. Our team worked diligently to ensure the website met the client’s requirements while providing a seamless user experience. We integrated features that allowed Arkansas Carports to showcase their work attractively and manage quotes efficiently. Despite the extended timeline, Arkansas Carports was pleased with the final product. Their feedback highlighted the website’s functionality and aesthetic appeal, making the effort worthwhile. We’re now ensuring that everything functions properly and meets their business needs, involving thorough testing and adjustments based on real-world use. Sometimes, clients initially think they need one thing but later realize it’s just a piece of the puzzle. We’re committed to making any necessary adjustments to ensure the website truly supports their goals. This project taught me valuable lessons in project management. 1) Setting clear deadlines is crucial to create a sense of urgency and keep the project on track. 2) Regularly reviewing and adjusting the task schedule ensures progress. 3) Transparent client communication throughout the process helps manage expectations and fosters trust. 4) Lastly, being prepared to make adjustments post-launch is essential as real-world use often reveals additional needs and improvements.
