This economy has been a great time for clinics/hospitals/billing offices to partner with SPECIALIZED staffing companies to help them fill clinical and revenue cycle roles rapidly, and with excellent talent. If your staffing partners are sending you resumes from candidates that “ghost” your interview, this is a big red flag. It can be a sign that an agency is skipping steps in the match-making process.  A good recruiting team will build value in the opportunity, and vet the candidate in a way that makes the candidate know they can do the job but will also have opportunities to grow. Part of that is being a brand advocate for your clinic/hospital/office, conducting an intake call to understand the role’s demands at the deepest levels, plus why the role is desirable beyond words in a job description. Your agency partner should be meticulous to determine if the schedule/commute/workload/compensation/etc. TRULY meets the candidate’s needs and expectations. Then they need to prepare the candidate for the process milestones and timeline, so the candidate never feels surprised, or disrespected throughout the process. What is interesting is 75% of this you may never see. But you will see the results. 💡 Handling Rate Reductions as a Healthcare Traveler: It's Not Just About the Money Let’s be honest—travel healthcare rates have come down significantly since the pandemic. 🚑 During COVID, we saw historically high rates due to urgent needs, but as the market has normalized, many travelers are feeling the sting of reduced pay packages. Some are even saying they make more as staff nurses than as travelers.  So, how should healthcare travelers approach rate reductions in today’s market? Here are a few thoughts:  1️⃣ Focus on the Bigger Picture While rates are a key factor, they’re not the only reason to travel. Many travelers take assignments for the experience—exploring new places, gaining diverse clinical skills, or avoiding workplace politics. Travel nursing can still offer incredible opportunities for growth, adventure, and flexibility. 🌍🏥  2️⃣ Know Your Worth and Stay Flexible This market is all about adaptability. A slightly lower rate doesn’t mean you’re undervalued—it’s simply a reflection of market changes. But if a rate doesn’t feel worth it, negotiate where you can. If flexibility in location or specialty aligns with your goals, it might open up assignments with better rates.  3️⃣ Look Beyond the Rate  Consider the **total package**, not just the hourly rate. Tax-free stipends, housing support, and opportunities to avoid weekend shifts or high acuity patient loads can make an assignment worth it. And don’t forget: no bedside politics!  4️⃣ Invest in the Experience   Each travel assignment adds to your resume. The skills, certifications, and adaptability you gain will serve you in future roles—whether as a traveler or staff. Some experiences are priceless, even if the pay isn’t at its peak.  5️⃣ Communicate With Your Recruiter   A good recruiter will have honest conversations about market trends and help you find the best opportunities for your goals. If you’re unsure about taking a lower-paying contract, talk it out and explore all your options.  Final Thought:  Yes, travel assignments may not pay what they did during the pandemic, but they can still provide incredible career and personal benefits. One thing is for sure: growth isn’t going to come from riding the industry wave—it has to come from within, focusing on operational excellence. We all found our rhythm in those early years in staffing, and every promotion felt like a major win. But recently, I’ve been talking to more folks who are feeling, simply put, burned out. Crisp. #Recruiters, if you've missed out on presenting top candidates because they have a non-compete, that worry is over. The FTC has banned new and enforcement of existing non-competes. Check link in comments below for more details. I was not able to place some candidates at one client because of the client's aggressive non-compete. The company also routinely enforced the non-compete where they could even if terminating an employee. Some states where they operated, upheld the non-compete. Imagine spending years in an industry, your employer lets you go, and you can't work in the industry for two years! Employers are required to send notice to their employees to advise them of this change. The talent pool just got a lot larger. 😃
