“Doug and I worked together at a hot start-up gaming company (U4iA Games) from 2012 to 2013. We worked together on corporate strategy and worked on platform deals like Facebook and Amazon. Doug is a smart, hard-working, and dedicated marketer who has a superior ability to wear multiple hats and manage many emergencies. On a personal level, I think Doug a great person with a high degree of integrity and commitment to his family and work. Doug would make a great addition to any team-focused organization.”

Here's how you can gain marketing experience from a non-marketing background.
They key to making the transition into marketing is to make the case that the skills you've developed are directly transferable to the role. Here are examples of what I had to demonstrate when I transitioned from tech consulting to marketing: - Problem solving in a different domains - Geting sh!t done. If you can manage complex projects with many stakeholders you can run campaigns - Deep understanding of customers (whoever they are: clients / end users / etc) - Study marketing and have an opinion on what makes great / bad marketing. Be surprising (definitely don't use Apple as an example).

Here's how you can master essential skills for a successful career in marketing.
Starting with the assumption that nobody cares about your product is a great way to think about the best way to convince them that they should care. Marketing is about persuasion. First you need to define who your product is for (target audience). Develop a deep understanding of your audience. Then you need to figure out why should they care (positioning). Understanding the needs your product fulfills for your audience and how it is different is critical. Next you build a marketing plan aimed at convince your audience to try your product.

What are the best ways to improve your team's competitive knowledge?
Speak with current & potential customers: you must understand (current & potential) customers' needs and what you can/can't fulfill + why they might switch products. Use your competitors products: It's incredibly important to try the products of your competitors (we're lucky in games that this means...playing games). Revisit regularly and compare to your roadmap with the goal of remaining differentiated. Find disruption early: Constantly speak with with people who are connected across the industry (VCs, CEOS, Advisors, etc.) to understand potential new companies / products on the horizon that are likely to disrupt the status quo.

What are the most common MVP validation challenges, and how can you overcome them?
Going from 0-1 your value proposition starts as a hypothesis that you need to test with your target audience. Building a community and feedback loop with your customers will help you refine your value proposition as the market, customer expectations and your competitors evolve.
