I’m sharing my deeply disappointing experience with @amazonIN so that others can be aware of their unfair practices. Despite being a paid Prime Member, I have been harassed and denied a refund for a legitimate return. Here’s my story: 🧵 I ordered a Redmi Note 13 Pro on 25 Oct 2024 (Order ID: 407-7341526-8150700). The product I received did not match the specifications of the item I ordered. I requested a return/refund, which was accepted on 29 Oct. Amazon arranged for a return pickup on 2 Nov 2024. The pickup agent inspected the item before accepting it. (CCTV footage available ) After returning the product, I waited for my refund of ₹19,999. But Amazon FAILED to process it. On 18 Nov, I received an email stating an “internal investigation” claimed I returned the wrong item. They denied the refund. Despite my repeated requests, Amazon has not shared any proof of this investigation. 🔗 Email Proof: The harassment didn’t stop there. On 3 Nov, the same pickup agent returned to my home, questioning my family about the refund. I wasn’t home, and this behaviour was both unprofessional and distressing for my family. ( CCTV footage available) To make matters worse, on 22 Nov, Amazon emailed me, threatening to cancel future orders, despite me being a PAID Prime member. This is unacceptable and a breach of their own service agreement. 🔗 Email Proof: When I contacted Amazon, they consistently refused to send any information in writing. Instead, I was repeatedly asked to call them for details. This only raises suspicions — it feels like they are trying to hide something. Why can’t they provide me with the necessary investigation details in writing? Frustrated, I filed a police complaint, and the investigation is ongoing. Despite notifying Amazon of this, they refuse to share details of the pickup agent, hindering the investigation. Why this lack of transparency, @amazonIN? I have the following evidence: Copies of emails and call recordings from Amazon support. Police complaint documents. Why isn’t Amazon acting responsibly? @amazonIN, you’ve failed to process my refund, violated my rights as a consumer, and breached my trust as a Prime member. Netizens, be cautious while ordering from Amazon. I hope Amazon resolves this, or I’ll be forced to escalate legally. #AmazonIndia #CustomerRights

Team, Actions to accelerate our progress We have moved our All-Company Meeting to today, following our earnings call, as we are announcing significant actions to reduce our costs. We plan to deliver $10 billion in cost savings in 2025, and this includes reducing our head count by roughly 15,000 roles, or 15% of our workforce. The majority of these actions will be completed by the end of this year.  This is painful news for me to share. I know it will be even more difficult for you to read. This is an incredibly hard day for Intel as we are making some of the most consequential changes in our company’s history. When we meet in a few hours, I’ll talk about why we’re doing this and what you can expect in the coming weeks. In advance of that, I wanted to preview some of what’s on my mind. Simply put, we must align our cost structure with our new operating model and fundamentally change the way we operate. Our revenues have not grown as expected – and we’ve yet to fully benefit from powerful trends, like AI. Our costs are too high, our margins are too low, and we need bolder actions to address both – particularly given our financial results and outlook for the second half of 2024, which is tougher than previously expected. These decisions have challenged me to my core, and this is the hardest thing I’ve done in my career. My pledge to you is that we will prioritize a culture of honesty, transparency and respect in the weeks and months to come. Next week, we’ll announce a companywide enhanced retirement offering for eligible employees and broadly offer an application program for voluntary departures. I believe that how we implement these changes is just as important as the changes themselves, and we will adhere to Intel values throughout this process. Why now? Since introducing our new operating model, we have taken a clean-sheet view of the business and assessed ourselves against benchmarks for high-performing foundries, fabless product companies and corporate functions. This work made it clear our cost structure is not competitive. For example, our annual revenue in 2020 was about $24 billion higher than it was last year, yet our current workforce is actually 10% larger now than it was then. There are a lot of reasons for this, but it’s not a sustainable path forward. Beyond our costs, we need to change the way we operate – something many of you shared as part of our Employee Experience Survey. There’s too much complexity, so we need to both automate and simplify processes. It takes too long for decisions to be made, so we need to eliminate bureaucracy. And there’s too much inefficiency in the system, so we need to expedite workflows.

I just came across a fascinating paper that helped me crystalize a part of our work at Neon to achieve very high computational efficiencies on our models: switching from NxN to Nx1 convolutions. Drawing on insights from BitNet, which quantized LLMs to binary values, this paper introduces matrix multiplications with matrix-multiplication-free dense layers with ternary weights, offering significant efficiency gains. The performance benefits from pure algorithmic sense are simple to grasp. Matrix multiplication is O(n^3) and, in the best case, O(n^~2.4). Linear operations are O(N), but you will trade that for depth, so the correct value is n_layers * O(N). But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Now let's look at a H100 GPU -- what makes that fast? HBM3 memory and a pile of other tricks that reduce latency to half of an A100. nVidia invested in memory latency and bandwidth because they are a big part of keeping a monster GPU fed. Matrix multiplications cause non-local access and thus add to the complexity needed to overcome those non-local accesses. That is why fast MatMul ops only help at large matrix sizes. Linear operations, on the other hand, are cache-friendly, pre-fetchable, and very friendly for SIMD operations. These hardware advantages allow models to work better not only GPUs but also CPUs and NPUs. These findings are not just theoretical. They have practical implications, demonstrating that a well-designed network can effectively replace the cross-correlative weighing functions provided by matrix multiplication with depth-wise operations. These operations are not only common in tokenization but also find applications in various other areas. This shift towards more architecture and efficiency-aware designs is a promising development, opening up new possibilities for the use of LLMs and generative models on a wider range of devices. As you all know. Intel is laying off 15 percent of the workforce. Did I see this coming? Yes. Because we have just started foundry with massive investment that is yet to have ROI. At the moment we are burning cash and yet to make profit. We have also made some mistakes and fallen behind the AI revolution. We have lost customers to our competitors. NVIDIA, AMD, TSMC, Samsung I believe are on cloud 9 right now. They earned it. I’m I sad? Yes. Intel will surely turn things around. This is not the first time we have been through this but this is probably our hardest hit. Intel was always my dream company and it is right now. Lots of families will be impacted by this layoff. I am not immune to this as well. We will see how it goes. But I am always positive regardless of an outcome. I always keep these in mind wherever I find myself. 1. No one is untouchable so whenever you are delivering at work, do it with excellence. Go above and beyond 2. Build networks you can fall on in case you are laid off. 3. Develop skills outside your current role or capability. Take new roles and responsibilities at work. Take new courses. There are many free courses online 4. Be pleasant and easy to work with without compromising quality, safety and efficiency 5. Be respectful and honour commitments. And if you cannot, communicate as quickly as possible. 6. Always have 6 months savings at your disposal you can fall back on 7. Opportunities come in the form of problems. Always volunteer whenever help is needed. Don’t say it is not my responsibility . You will always get someone to help you figure it out. That is an opportunity to learn something new. 8. Have assets you can easily liquidate while you are on the job search. In other words, invest when things are good .9. Be lean on your lifestyle. Last thing you want is credit card debts mounting and living a lifestyle you cannot sustain if you should lose your job. Rule of thumb for me is, be debt free. Only thing I will take on debt is education and housing. Any other thing, I pay fully. To all my colleagues who may find themselves in this challenging climate, not only intel colleagues. Be strong. Reach out to people in your network. Stay strong and positive. You got this!!!

🔴 🔴 🔴 For all future chip designers and those interested in joining the Indian semiconductor industry: I highly recommend watching this must-see series that offers a deep dive into the history and evolution of chip technology. Watch with patience and curiosity, as these videos will give you an understanding of how the idea of multi-functional chips came into existence. 👉 It all began with the inefficiencies of targeting during World War II and the early stages of the Cold War. Back then, military forces struggled with precision—only about 20% of bombs could hit within a 1000m range of their intended targets. This lack of accuracy pushed the need for better technology, which eventually led to incredible innovations in electronics, including semiconductors. 👉The series also touches upon how Russia’s strategy of trying to copy Western technology throughout the Cold War often led to failure. While copying worked in some cases, Russia lagged behind in innovation, especially in microelectronics and chip design. On the other hand, the U.S. was rapidly advancing in chip-making technology, laying the groundwork for the modern semiconductor industry. 👉Japan also played a pivotal role by taking U.S. technology and refining it. In the 1980s, Japan became a leader in manufacturing efficiency and mass production, particularly in memory chips like DRAM. Their ability to scale production and create high-quality products transformed the global electronics industry. 👉So far, I’ve watched 5 videos in this series, and I plan to complete the rest by the end of this week. Intel Cuts Costs Successfully and Secures Two New Customers for 18A Process Intel announced 3Q revenue of $13.28B, a YoY decline of 6%. The adjusted gross margin was 18%-significantly lower than the initial forecast of 38%-and was largely attributed to a $2.8B restructuring charge that impacted profitability. This marks a significant step toward Intel's goal of achieving $10B in cost reductions by 2025. However, revenue from the Data Center and Al group exceeded expectations by growing 9% YOY to $3.35B. Intel and AMD have formed an x86 ecosystem advisory group to accelerate innovation for developers and customers, jointly shaping the future of the x86 platform. Intel also remains committed to leading the AI PC sector, with plans to ship 100 million Al-enabled PCs by the end of 2025. In the data center and Al sector, Intel will deploy Gaudi 3 Al accelerators on IBM Cloud to help enterprises scale Al applications more effectively, promoting innovation based on security and flexibility. Revenue from Intel's foundry business fell by 8% YoY to $4.4B, and on September 16, Intel decided to spin off its wafer foundry business as a subsidiary. The highly anticipated 18A process is progressing well and will be used to manufacture Al chips for AWS, while Intel's Intel 3 process will produce custom Xeon 6 chips, deepening

I think it is all wrong to begin measuring the growth of human race by numbers. There is not enough dimensions in the GDP or Stock Indices to tell how we are living better in the 21st century than we were 50-100 years before. Some of us have better dwellings, but we now lack the sense of equality that everyone else also have a roof over their heads, and a wall beside their bed, or wherever they are lying down. Humans are eating more meat than they did Decades ago - fueled by unsustainable soy and forests lost at a rate impossible to regrow them. More countries fighting Wars today than they ever had since the WW 2 ended in 1947. How have Humans learned to live peacefully? History just repeats itself that we have yet to learn to love our neighbors, and we may never will. We have grown greedier, self-centered - only cared about ourselves, our town, our country at the expense of other nations, continents, and even the whole world. We have only 1 planet - Mars is not going to happen in my lifetime. Elon Musk and other lunatics cannot have it their way. Life begins with misery and all things started with birth have to end with death. But in between, can we be kinder and get wiser? Producing more than what we can consume is made to stock. Like Blackberry, one day Apple will have more phones built then they can sell, half of Ford/GM/Tesla and possibly a qtr of China will follow suit. Net : Production of the future cannot be made to stock, but rather Build to Order. Because every production causes wastes - a possible pollution - a consumption that might be avoided, for the benefit of the planet. They came, they played, they conquered. The Indian Women's team, when they emerged winners in the Chess Olympiad, showed the world that they have arrived too -- not long after the men's team put their stamp of supremacy. I don't remember another globally played sport in which India held both the men's and women's crown. This one though, also comes with a HUGE sign that the teams are here to stay. They are not one-and-done. The women's win is a tale of resiliency, courage and grit. Each one in the team had a story to tell. Whether it was Tania and Harika's multi-decade search for Chess glory, or Vaishali's emergence from her self-doubt as brother Praggnaanandha dominated the news cycles, Divya's constant battles with rampant sexism, judgment and hatred, or Vantika feeling the pressure of catching up after starting competitive chess relatively late, they are truly inspiring. The team took this same grit to the chess games, and emerged on top even effecting a comeback of sorts in the last two rounds. Moments like these offer inspiration that I pass along to my young daughter who aspires to become a sportsperson herself. It's hard work, it's resilience, it's focus, it's teamwork, it's strategy and it's execution. Oh wait, am I talking about work ethics? That too! Now, we wait for the Indian women’s cricket team to bring the T20 title home to pair with the men's trophy. The Chess Olympiad certainly tempts us with that possibility. My Harrowing Experience with Amazon: A Tale of Negligence and Harassment As a loyal Amazon Prime member, I’ve always trusted the platform for its convenience and customer service. However, my recent experience has shaken that trust and exposed shocking lapses in Amazon's processes. The Issue: On 25th Oct 2024, I purchased a Redmi Note 13 Pro (Order ID: 407-7341526-8150700). There is MRP mismatch. I initiated a return request, which was approved. The item was picked up on 2nd November 2024 by an Amazon delivery agent. I was assured that my refund would be processed shortly. To my shock, after n follow-ups, Amazon claimed that I returned the wrong item and refused to process the refund. Despite our evidence, including call recordings and CCTV footage of the return pickup, they refused to share details of their internal investigation. Escalation and Recovery: On 3rd November 2024, the same Amazon pickup agent revisited my home to question my family about the refund, a deeply intrusive and unprofessional act. Unable to get a resolution from Amazon, I filed a police complaint at the KPHB Police Station. The police investigation revealed that the delivery agent had exchanged my new phone for an old one and retained the new phone. The police recovered the phone, confirming my claims. Amazon's Response: Despite the police findings and the agent’s admission, Amazon continues to deny my refund and hasn’t acknowledged their delivery agent’s misconduct. Their communication has been dismissive, citing irrelevant order IDs and refusing to provide meaningful updates or compensation for the harassment caused. Customer Protection: How can a company as large as Amazon fail to safeguard basic consumer rights? Transparency: Why was no evidence from their internal investigation shared with me? Accountability: Even after proof of fraud by their agent, Amazon hasn’t acknowledged their negligence. While the delivery agent has offered to compensate me out of his pocket, the onus lies on Amazon to refund the amount and compensate for the harassment caused. I am sharing this here to raise awareness and urge Amazon to take such issues seriously. As customers, we deserve better! Has anyone else faced such issues with Amazon? Employees in Oregon, Arizona, and these other US states affected Intel has begun implementing mass layoffs that it announced back in August, impacting more than 2,000 jobs across several US states. The company says these workforce reductions are part of its broader cost-cutting measures. Intel has initiated layoffs affecting over 2,000 jobs in multiple US states as part of cost-cutting measures announced in August. Significant impacts are seen in Oregon, Arizona, California, and Texas. The decision is part of Intel's broader strategy to eliminate more than 15,000 jobs globally and streamline operations amid growing competition and financial challenges. According to multiple reports, the job cuts will affect approximately 1,300 employees in Oregon, 385 in Arizona, 319 in California, and 251 in Texas.The impact is particularly significant in Oregon, where Intel is the second-largest private employer with over 20,000 workers. The affected employees in Oregon are based at facilities in Aloha and Hillsboro. The job cuts are set to begin on November 15, with employees receiving either a 60-day notice or a four-week notice with additional pay and benefits.
