Build websites that work offline using Progressive Web Apps in Drupal. We had a great Drupal Meetup featuring a preview of Abhai's upcoming DrupalCon Europe presentation. (https://lnkd.in/gKRrdcxc) The example use case is based on a project for UNICEF to allow people in the field to map out needed humanitarian resources in conflict or disaster zones that don't have internet. Highlights from the talk: PWA module allows you to install a website like an app. - Content needs to be available with unreliable internet - Content editors need to view, edit and add content offline - The content needs to be updated when a good internet is restored. The existing contrib solution is the PWA module but has comprises … - First time viewer visits the site app downloads all the offline pages and it's assets - Crawls the menu or you code specifies specific pages to save offline - This can be a massive download of pages and media assets (so a very slow first load) The Solution... - Save all the content as JSON in indexDB (in the browser) - When your offline the website switches from the servers database to your local indexDB - Local changes are saved to indexDB - When you connect to the internet, the browser pushes unpublished changes from your local indexDB changes. - Conflicts are resolved using the diff module After the session we looked at a similar use case for the government of Nunavut where remote communities have limited access. 🚀 Exciting updates from the Drupal community! 🚀 We're diving into discussions surrounding the dual release timelines for Drupal 11. Recently outlined by Gábor Hojtsy, these timelines have sparked diverse perspectives within the community. Drupal 11 promises major updates, including Symfony 7, jQuery 4, and PHPUnit 10 or 11, aimed at enhancing performance, security, and features. The potential release windows are: 👉 Early Window: If beta requirements are completed by April 26, 2024, Drupal 11.0.0-beta1 will launch the week of April 29, with a Release Candidate 1 (RC1) in the week of July 1, and a stable release expected in the week of July 29, 2024. 👉 Late Window: Should the beta requirements conclude by September 13, Drupal 11.0.0-beta1 would then be set for the week of September 16, with RC1 scheduled for the week of November 11, and the stable release targeted for the week of December 9, 2024. When working with WordPress having a deeper knowledge of what plugins are actually doing and basic understanding of PHP can save you time, money, and open up heavy customization. This client wanted their free gifts to show up in cart as it gets their customers excited and is better management of what is actually going in their shipments. I had used: https://lnkd.in/gnZ2iupN prior and it does the job for that pretty well. However as you can see the message displayed in the cart is a bit long, odd color choice and overall could catch attention a bit better. The plugin does offer some more customization options if you buy the premium support, but with 1 simple PHP function and filter I was able to customize not only the message but the look of it to be much cleaner!
