The in-person corollary to the #Webex tax (which is now the #Zoom tax) of taking up the first five minutes of every meeting to troubleshoot connection or audio/video issues is the WiFi fee. (What’s the guest password? Is that all caps? Oh the Ohs are actually zeros. Now it’s working let’s start…) But I’ve found a way out. I switched to unlimited 5G data and I’m free. Incidentally this is one of the only truly win-win convenience+security issues I can think of. (Anyone have another?)

Given the most companies are somewhere in the midst of their business, planning process, this piece from Todd Gagne is both timely and thought-provoking. As Antoine de Saint-Exupery famously stated, ``A goal without a plan is just a wish.'' And of course, every good plan needs to have measurements and accountability but in my experience organizations often overlook the friction and overhead associated with metrics and proliferate far too many rather than apply discipline to their creation and maintenance. If we can avoid that pitfall, and then resist the temptation to choose easy metrics that are so often lagging indicators, and seek out the perhaps more difficult to measure, but far more important leading indicators of whether we are getting results in alignment with our strategy, we will only spend energy measuring what truly matters. The job of every leader is results in alignment with strategy. Let’s get to it.

Has anyone run their background and interests through ChatGPT or other AI to analyze areas that you may fit best in the corporate world? I just did this for fun across a few AI models. I kept the data identical, and used a downloaded copy of my LinkedIn details, some information not shared on LI related to detailed history and interests and here are the common Top 5 not in order: 1) Marketing and Brand Management 2) Product Management 3) Business Development and Strategic Partnerships 4) Entrepreneurship and Start-ups - YIKES! More gambling? 5) Gaming and Entertainment with esports, video game development and hardware called out separately per AI Consulting was actually #1 across all, but IMHO it is not corporate it is individual. What do you all think? Will you try it if you have not done so?

70-75% of corporate acquisitions fail. As someone who's supports billions in financial transactions, I've seen firsthand the complexities of mergers and acquisitions. The urge to merge or acquire is strong. But it's often misguided. Why do so many M&As fall short? 1. Misaligned incentives 2. Poor target selection 3.
