“Its your values I’m attracted to,” he told us.   Are you struggling to find the right doctor to join your Concierge Medicine practice? Our most recent physician actually found us! He had been looking online for inspiration and came across our physician blogs and podcasts.    “I’m attracted to your values,” he told us.  Your company focuses on the continual development of the physicians and empowerment of each staff member. Long-term relationships with patients. Collaborative patient-physician decision making.”    It turns out that our outreach and education wasn’t only for the patients we reached. It also helped to communicate our values as an organization. Those organizational values attract others who share the same drive. What four things have we learned from this? 1. Share your values. 2. Each physician has unique gifts. Find ways to help them share their knowledge. 3. Share your specialized medical knowledge with the media.     4. 🚨Those of you here for the deprescribing tips only, stop reading ‘cuz I’m venting today.🚨 Policymakers and insurers are failing not only our seniors but all of us (let’s face it we’re not getting any younger). Our patients, families, and caregivers are dealing with enough as it is. The added stress caused by overmedication sometimes leads to preventable adverse events, side effects, and death - is just TOO MUCH. How much more lobbying do we need to do as pharmacists to be included in the reimbursement conversation? Many of us are ready and willing to step into a role that can make our health system become fruitful and flourish. We have done the background work to become DRUG EXPERTS and add VALUE to our communities as clinicians. We have produced all the evidence with research, reports, and surveys that support deprescribing practices. What’s left? It is in our nature as pharmacists to be persistent and proactive, so we are actively finding ways to do what we do best, - and that is ensuring safe medication use in our patients. I was able to monetize deprescribing and teach many others how to increase their value as clinicians. We’re not sitting around waiting for the green light. We will continue to fight the good fight while saving as many patients as we can. #geriatrx #deprescribing #advocacy #patientcare

As a family caregiver and owner Angie’s Angels Home Health Care, LLC. this tip from #vitalmagazine resonated with me and if you’re a care provider at any level I hope this snippet of wisdom assists you too. Control what you can control. Lots of articles about stress management advise letting go of control; however, being in control of some areas of your life can greatly reduce your stress. Get help with housework. Get help with yard work. Prepare meals in advance and freeze them. Keep bills and insurance paperwork organized so there are fewer financial surprises. Plan your work; then work your plan. Be as efficient as possible. Don’t let things pile up. Do three little things every evening before you go to bed, such as laundry, dishes and taking out the garbage. The morning will be much more of a gift.
