Addressing these concerns proactively can help build trust and engagement with your audience. Here are some potential concerns and our way to address them: 1. Credibility and Expertise - Concern: Is the mentor qualified? Rhoda has over 30 years of being an experienced RN on many hospital floors. How experienced is the person providing the educational content? Rhoda has been teaching as an in service director in several nursing facilities and now has her masters in nursing education. Why Civic Education Cannot Wait Sometimes, life's most important messages come in unexpected ways. For me, it arrived in a Miami hotel room on July 24, 2023. What I thought was just indigestion turned out to be something far more serious – my left anterior descending artery, the one doctors call the "widowmaker," was almost completely blocked. Lying in that emergency room, watching doctors and nurses tend to my heart attack, I started thinking about all the warning signs I'd ignored. Later, in recovery, I thought about more than that. I thought about the mission I'd been dancing around, the work I hadn't finished, and the legacy I wanted to leave behind. Just as I had dismissed the symptoms that should have sent me straight to the ER, we as a nation have been ignoring the warning signs of a different kind of crisis – one that strikes at the very heart of our republic. The Numbers Tell a Story Consider these sobering facts. Only a quarter of Americans can name all three branches of government. Less than half know the purpose of the Bill of Rights. And perhaps most alarming, only 22% of eighth-graders scored proficient or higher on the National Assessment of Educational Progress civics assessment in 2022. But these aren't just statistics. They're warning signs of a republic at risk. As Benjamin Franklin once said, we have "a republic, if you can keep it." Those words echo with new urgency today. Just as my heart needed immediate attention to prevent catastrophe, our civic health requires urgent care to preserve the freedoms we often take for granted. The Hidden Crisis in Plain Sight Walk into any coffee shop, sit down at your own family dinner table, or attend a local community meeting and listen. You’ll hear passionate opinions disconnected from civic knowledge, frustrations about government stemming from misunderstanding how it works, and young people feeling powerless to make a difference. This is the true crisis – civic disengagement fueled by civic ignorance. How can we expect our children to protect freedoms they don't understand? How can they participate in a system whose basic principles remain a mystery to them?

I believe that those who choose MA plans spend $2,500 less on their healthcare a year than those who chose traditional Medicare. 1. Fewer in-network doctors to care for MA patients 2. More HMO plans, so MA patients rely on referrals that are hard to get, thus less care is provided. 3. Limited medication formulary for MA patients 4. Craft an elevator pitch that stands out For the residency showcase We are days away from Midyear and many of you are preparing to travel and thinking of ways to make a lasting impression. Your elevator pitch is one you’ll be glad you have ready. Here is a list with key components it must have: 1️⃣Confident Introduction Start with your name, current status (e.g., P4 pharmacy student), and a brief mention of a leadership role or key accomplishment. This builds credibility and sets a professional tone. 2️⃣Unique Value Proposition Highlight what makes you stand out. Share a specific passion, skill, or quality that aligns with the program’s mission or focus. 3️⃣Alignment with the Program Clearly express why you’re drawn to the residency program. Mention aspects such as areas of focus (e.g., acute care, ambulatory care), the program’s values, or unique learning opportunities. 4️⃣Key Strengths Include 1-2 traits or skills that demonstrate your potential as a resident (e.g., hardworking, adaptable, team-oriented, coachable). 5️⃣Call to Action Conclude with enthusiasm and an invitation to learn more.
