#Bloomberg (Bloomberg) -- Mizuho Financial Group Inc. is considering making a push into a new area for the lender in India focusing on private equity and venture capital firms, seeking to tap some of the most prolific dealmakers in the country. Japan’s third-largest bank has held internal discussions on targeting this segment and is drawing up the potential talent pool that could lead this initiative, according to people familiar with the matter. The bank is looking to launch the effort as soon as next year, said the people, who asked not to be identified citing private information. The bank’s plan to target so-called financial sponsors — firms that invest in private businesses — mirrors efforts by global banks such as JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Deutsche Bank AG as well as domestic lenders like Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. and Axis Bank Ltd.A Tokyo-based spokesman for Mizuho spokesman declined to comment. https://lnkd.in/dFEd82Qw

The list of quality India-focused private markets fund managers continues to expand as Affirma Capital, the former private equity team of Standard Chartered are launching a dedicated India strategy targeting $350 million. The Affirma Capital team have been successfully investing in emerging markets and particularly India for the past 2 decades, so a dedicated India country strategy makes sense as the sophistication of the market continues to bolster alongside strong macroeconomic growth and a rapidly developing capital markets landscape. I have had the opportunity to see and work with this team over the years and it is fascinating to see the continued development of Indian private markets. While the US private equity market continues to attract the overwhelming share of global LP capital, interest in India remains one of the highest amongst geographies for limited partners. One question remains: with several India funds recently raised on in-process, how much remaining LP capital is available for additional launches?
