The annual DC Velocity salary survey was recently released, and it’s always interesting to examine the key numbers. At a high level, the average salary for a supply chain professional dipped slightly from 2023, but career satisfaction increased somewhat. This increased satisfaction is attributed to constant problem-solving while working with great people, everyday learning, and providing solutions to help the business. The findings get murky when we examine (1) average salary by title and (2) average salary by age. Logically, corporate officers and presidents earn more than directors and managers. In addition, Gen X workers are more likely to earn more than Gen Z workers. But if a Gen X worker gets promoted up to the C-Suite, is their salary adjusted to reflect their age and experience level? Or do you go ahead and pay them the market salary for someone in the C-Suite? Some might have 10 years of relevant experience while others have 25 years of experience. There is a lot to consider and break out here.
