As the Shasta Ventures approval deadline approaches, we're presented with a unique opportunity to observe the complexities and inherent conflicts in GP-led secondary transactions. This scenario sheds light on the considerable leverage GPs hold within the private equity infrastructure. According to the article, proposed continuation fund requires LPs to approve the transaction if they wish to roll their interests into the new structure—a stipulation that could be seen as putting undue pressure on LPs. Our view on the current venture capital markets. Curious to hear other investors' thoughts but I feel like seed stage valuation, at least in the gaming and entertainment sectors, has finally come down to the pre-covid level. Since February or March this year, we started seeing that the founders are willing to raise a $1-2m seed round at a $10m-ish valuation, not like $4-5m at $20-25m in 2022 and 2023. What are you guys seeing?

I’m a strong believer in the idea that leading is largely about building empathy. The job isn’t just helping others understand the mission - it’s helping them complete the mission and building alignment through personal context. To take it a step further, you can’t be empathetic if you aren’t curious. Curiosity drives us to ask deeper questions - those questions build empathy and, then, we become more aligned.

These VC firms have fresh capital and are eager to deploy. 🔴 Olivia Wilde launched her new VC firm, Proximity Ventures, with Neil Sirni, Jason Mack, and Santi White. The firm expects to hold a close next month and will invest in consumer and enterprise sectors. 🔴 Greenwich based Tamarack Global closed its $72M Opportunities II fund to focus on energy transition, defense-tech, the space economy, robotics & automation, AI, and more. 🔴 New York based BBG Ventures raised a $60M fund to support diverse founders. 🔴 Los Angeles based MaC Venture Capital raised its third $150M fund to back diverse founders and industries such as aerospace, enterprise software, fintech, health tech, and defense, among others. 🔴 Lisbon based Faber closed its €31 million Faber Tech III fund to support early stage innovation in Southern Europe. 🔴 Chicago based Listen Ventures is planning to raise $75M for its fourth fund to back consumer-obsessed founders building brands at the tipping point of behavior shifts. 🔴 Mumbai based Inflexor Ventures closed its first ₹350 crore Opportunities Fund to support its existing portfolio companies. 🔴 France based Axeleo Capital closed its new €125M greentech fund. 🔴 Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU) partnered with venture capital firm Walden International to establish a new VC fund, Nanyang Frontier Fund. The fund is looking to raise $37.9M to back deep tech spin-offs from the university.

NY Tech Week has been exhilarating, dynamic, diverse, and inspiring! So many organic connections were made between investors, founders, and rising change-makers, and we learned so much about the current landscape and the future of innovation. The Fourth Effect, in partnership with EisnerAmper, hosted a vibrant panel discussion "Let's Talk About Boards" at Savills with uplifting expert speakers Mina E. Black and Caroline McCaffery. The Fourth Effect founders Breen Sullivan and Katrin de Haën are on a mission to empower female & minority executives to advise on governance boards and contribute their wealth of knowledge to the world by connecting them with startups seeking to establish boards and scale. So many founders in particular attended this event, and from the lively discussion afterwards, it's clear we all walked away thinking a whole lot more about the importance of proactivity, diversity & inclusion, and expertise when establishing company boards. AcceleratorCON, New York City Economic Development Corporation, and Civic Hall co-hosted the panel "Reimagining Accelerators for Tomorrow's Startups." Especial focus was given to tailoring accelerator programming to the startup cohort's unique skills and needs, peer-to-peer learning, intentional considerations to engage diverse founders, industry-agnostic accelerators, follow-on support and investor networks, as well as the rise of pre-accelerator accelerators. So much great info was shared at this event! My friends at Kaplak Ventures hosted a climate tech demo night at Brown Rudnick LLP on Times Square, where we heard enthusiastic pitch presentations from a diverse cohort of startups, from deep tech to arts-based solutions, including aich2, carbogenics, TeamStack.ai, Tesleon LLC, and Tolam Earth. Copenhagen-based Kaplak Ventures just partnered with New Haven-based climate incubator ClimateHaven to host the 3-month ReGen Accelerator program for seed-stage startups addressing the climate issues of today.
