Canton Police Department Audit My letter, now a matter of public record, was crafted following extensive consultations with my team of subject matter experts, most of whom were recruited from outside New England due to their specialized expertise. This team comprises individuals who have attended the FBI National Academy, hold FBI-LEEDA certifications, possess advanced degrees, and are published authors in their respective fields. Our team includes retired police chiefs, a lawyer, a college professor in Criminal Justice, and the director of a state-wide evidence lab program. Most importantly, each team member brings the experience, integrity, and capability necessary to undertake a project of this magnitude and complexity. During our meeting, concerns were immediately raised regarding the clarity and intent of the RFP. One team member questioned whether the document reflected a genuine commitment to a legitimate operational audit. Our team has extensive experience with RFP processes—we have reviewed, responded to, and authored numerous RFPs. Yet, this RFP was unlike any we had encountered: it was alarmingly vague, lacking defined goals and measurable outcomes. After a meticulous 90-minute review of the RFP, the decision not to proceed was unanimous among the nine experts. My decision to write the letter was rooted in a deep commitment to transparency and accountability. We believe the citizens of Canton deserve to know that, in its current state, this RFP is a disservice to all stakeholders. Without clearly defined objectives, the proposed audit will fail to deliver the meaningful insights that taxpayers rightfully expect, risking the waste of $200,000 on an ineffective process. Our concerns were further validated after observing the IAC meeting designed to address vendor inquiries. The meeting revealed a lack of leadership, professionalism, and strategic direction, reinforcing our decision to withdraw. The disorganized nature of the process was evident and, in our view, likely discouraged other reputable firms from participating. The experts I assembled for this project consist of some of the most respected experts in the field, and our 9-0 unanimous decision speaks to the severity of the issues we identified. We remain committed to delivering high-quality, impactful audits. However, we cannot support a process that, in our professional judgment, fails to serve the community's best interests. Tonight, we'll examine the officer involved shooting of Michael Jones — by our very own Akron Police Department in the early morning hours of August 17th outside of the Duke and Duchess gas station on East Avenue, in Akron, Ohio. The 15 second unnecessary struggle took Jones' life and re-opened deep wounds between the people and the police in Akron. Jones, a 54-year-old black man, was shot at point blank range and killed by an Akron Police Officer (whose name has yet to be released to the public) during an altercation inside a U-Haul Rental Truck. In a Light 'Em Up Exclusive Visual Investigation we've analyzed the body worn camera (BWC) of the officer involved shooting from car 14A — frame by frame, meticulously we've rolled back the footage of the fatal traffic stop to examine the causes and consequences of the "officer created jeopardy" in this specific case. With Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill in the news for being dragged out of his car in Miami Gardens, FL — this fact pattern put the issue of excessive force and officer created jeopardy at the forefront of countless discussions. Our learning objectives for this intense episode -- which may very well save your life or that of a loved one -- will be to drill down on: — The fact-pattern in the killing of Michael Jones — Reasonable, Articulable, Suspicion (RAS) — and introduce to you the concept of "Officer Induced Jeopardy". Given that "Counter-Sniper" refers to specially trained individuals who neutralize enemy snipers, encompassing more than observation and detection, I'm particularly interested in learning how counter-sniper plans are developed and implemented within the private sector. Even if the act of neutralizing the threat using deadly force was removed from the equation, to truly conduct counter-sniper operations those assigned to that task would need to have specific training and understanding of the tactics employed by a would-be sniper in order to properly plan for and detect a sniper threat.  While I'm uncertain of Mr. LaSorsa's sniper training and experience, my own background includes over a decade as a qualified and combat-deployed US Army Sniper, along with my experience as a contracted Designated Defensive Marksman in several combat zones for multiple U.S. Ambassadors Protective Details on the WPPS/WPS State Department Diplomatic Security Services Program. This should make for a very interesting discussion. #sniper #ddm #countersniper #aitraining #askchatgpt #Gemini

In 2024 more police officers and staff members have been dismissed through misconduct since 2006. The numbers have nearly doubled. Why? Has policing suddenly discovered they have a bunch of untrustworthy, disobedient, inappropriate, disrespectful, fickle and bullish Police officers or do they have a group of uneducated, inexperienced, unskilled and untrained workforce? In October 2014 the Government published a report regarding a review by Major-General Chip Chapman CB regarding proposals to reform police disciplinary systems and in that report, he wrote: “At the heart of the issue throughout this report is not discipline at all; it is the sum of governance, leadership, management, ethos, ethics, training, culture and behaviours”. Why then in 2024 some 10 years later is policing continuing with what is described by many as a blame culture, a culture that runs fear amongst the lower ranks? Policing is supposedly embracing a learning culture, which clearly isn’t working. We know from experience over many, many years that where there is a blame culture there is a culture of internal distrust, where there is negativity there is de-motivation, where a system is adversarial there is a lack of co-operation and where there is a feeling that “they are out to get you” there is little or no desire to improve. Sadly, this is where I believe policing sits and the only people that can change that culture are those instigating and promoting the current systems against police officers. In the last 4 years there has been 4 major reviews into Police officer conduct. The Casey Review, The Angiolini inquiry, Review into police vetting, misconduct and misogyny in England and Wales and finally in 2023 the Review by Government/Home Office of the Police disciplinary system. From my reading of such reviews in brief the ethos, intentions or drive is to enable police forces to dismiss more officers. 593 officers dismissed in 12 months and many more to follow, is this the attention-grabbing story that truly rebuilds public trust? Reading some of the headlines of some of those cases I suspect not. Or is it time for politicians to now invest in policing, is it now the time to recruit the best there is in society regardless of gender, race, religion and sexuality, is it time to provide the best training to better educate and develop the skills of our police officers, is it time to make policing a rewarding profession where pays reflects the risk and sacrifice officers make to their personal life and is it time that appointed police leaders focus on policing and supporting their workforce rather than playing petty politics in an attempt to climb the slippery pole of self-generated success? https://lnkd.in/ekwmbwGJ

Stress inoculation is kind of like allergy shots. Especially for a civilian population. To be effective it needs to start with very small doses and be administered in gradually increasing doses over a period of time. I know, in the military and policing, we throw a lot and throw fast at candidates and yell at them to succeed, but these are mostly grown adults that have chosen to subject themselves to combat training. They know this is the program. In the martial arts, brand new students don't typically spar. We start with learning techniques, then we apply techniques to stationary targets, then we move to controlled drills with preset attacks and responses, we practice contact attacks against things we can't hurt and things that won't hit back, then we start them moving together but without hard contact. It is a very long process before someone gets into the ring to throw and block full contact, dynamic attacks. One-time, first-time real lifelike stress delivered without warning is a formula for meltdown. And not warning law enforcement? Those students acting as bad actors may be lucky to be alive. And kudos to the LEO responders for maintaining situational awareness and real world judgement. Thanks to them that it wasn't a larger tragedy.
