If you are using Unreal Engine 5.4 and Nanite with Tessellation you might be interested in this: The dicing rate (r.Nanite.DicingRate) can be tuned to get some extra juicy ms, but it is a bit counter-intuitive. The lower the number, the more triangles are produced by the tessellation algorithm (Currently static since is happening at runtime, hope this improves!) The default value is 2. Using a value of 1 produces way more triangles, performance almost stays the same. But it is actually really hard to tell the difference. 2-6 Performance slightly improves, 5 and 6 you can already notice tessellation shadows slightly popping if you move slow. Performance improves from 1 to 2 ms, those are gold. 7 and more, even having way fewer triangles, performance slowly decreases. Yes, even with less triangles, you are most likely creating a bottleneck in who knows what part of the pipeline. My magic number until see how 5.5 evolves is: r.Nanite.DicingRate 1-2 extra ms. Less triangles than the default 2. Tessellation almost stays the same. Extra tip for Nanite and WPO. Virtual shadow maps are a must. Separate dynamic and static meshes in two VSM with r.Shadow.Virtual.Cache.StaticSeparate 1 Make all your foliage invalidation settings as static/rigid (Also making them static objects), and only characters and transforming objects as "auto" (Which will invalidate per frame) Limit the WPO distance to 5000 to 7000 units. This will give you easily 3-4 ms in shadow depths if you are using WPO. Good luck!

Quick test with PlayCanvas's #Supersplat multilayer approach + Jawset #Postshot for camera: combined location shot quickly with IPhone 14 Pro in Luma AI from outside and inside into one ... Supersplat :) Matching geometry and scale is still made only visually, especially when dealing with splats, but gives big hopes how we can create huge venues with indoor and outdoor locations combined together. One problem though on my side: at some point I wasn't able to see how the final combination of two models looked like, so I had to export merged model and quickly open it in ModelViewer from PlayCanvas and "blindly" correct it in the supersplat project. I guess combining it in Unity might be easier. For Unreal with Volinga - it seems it is still not possible to bring multiple gaussians in one project. #gaussiansplatting

While works on adding JPEG XL different bit depth support for OpenImageIO found that OIIO can’t output NetPBM PFM (float). NetPBM is quite common format to works with raw image data. Write is dumb simple - small header with magic number, resolution, bit depth (max value) and raw pixel values. Such simplicity make it extremely useful for quick comparison with diff. And most of graphic apps can open it. For example open a pure raw values dump required input image resolution, but depth, etc in import dialogue. And not always usable. So idea was quickly add float PFM… well, that was a mistake 😅 Not only found some bugs in original PNM plugin. But looks like also found that most open source tools like GIMP and Imagemagick incorrectly open PFM files flipping them vertically (maybe they are zBrush users? 🤣). Afinity can’t open PFM. And the most adequate one become Adobe Photoshop. Unexpectedly it support, read and write all flavors of NetPBM including float PFM correctly! Quick coding task become a challenge 🤯 A! Also found that Gnome i0i%$ making everything to make users report less bugs (GIMP is Gnome). Login to Gnome GitLab using gitlab account is not work, but creation of a new account required 19!!!! symbols or more!

Cosmosf M31 multi-scale generative midi plugin, no text prompts, no AI. One M31 is driving a Roli Equator Harp preset with midi notes and multiple CC messages for each of them. Many studios remain tied to legacy software, which can hinder progress and efficiency. Older FBX versions, for example, are already incompatible with modern 3D applications. Consolidating everything into a unified format is a strategic move. This allows for batch conversion into other formats when the time comes to update the pipeline, whether that’s down the road or in the future. A well-structured setup makes migrating to modern formats much simpler. This approach also delivers immediate benefits by automating workflows, saving artists from repetitive manual tasks.
