As CCL Hospitality Group , Unidine and Compass Group USA continues to celebrate and spotlight our team members for #NationalHispanicHeritageMonth ~ we are spotlighting Daniel Cartagena our Director of Hospitality at our Premier location Moorings Park Communities in Naples Florida. Dan is a proud Puerto Rican. when I asked him about traditions that are important to him, this is what he shared. "My favorite time of year is almost here—Christmas! It’s a great season filled with family, laughter, and our beloved traditions. One of the highlights for us is participating in a “parranda,” a Puerto Rican celebration that brings everyone together. Imagine this: groups of friends and family gathered to spread joy and music, reminiscent of Christmas caroling, but with a unique twist. Parrandas are vibrant social events featuring lively traditional Puerto Rican music, delicious food, and festive drinks such as coquito. We often venture out in the evening, singing and dancing through the streets, sometimes until the early hours of the morning. It’s a celebration that makes you feel alive! But the fun doesn’t end on Christmas Day. We keep the festivities going all the way to Three Kings Day on January 6th. On this special night, children place a shoebox filled with grass and water under their beds for the camels of the Three Wise Men. Just like on Christmas, the excitement builds as the Kings leave behind surprises and gifts, adding an extra sprinkle of magic to the holiday season. For me, Christmas is more than just a day; it’s a joyful celebration that stretches across weeks, filled with music, love, and cherished memories with family and friends." Dan is a go to, mentor, teacher, Gantt chart extraordinaire and cheer leaders for so many. People are his passion. I asked him how we can assure our diverse team members are represented and celebrated. he shared "As we get to know our partners, it is important that we create opportunities for partners to share their cultural backgrounds and experiences. We could also highlight the different nationalities, ethnicities, and cultures within the group and avoid lumping everyone into a single category; instead, celebrate the unique traditions and histories each partner brings to our teams. We have a huge advantage working in the food-service industry that we can get to know one another through our traditional foods. There is so much joy around being able to share your families' recipes with others. We should take that opportunity to embrace each other's culture and utilize the power of food to engage with our teams. " Thank you Dan for sharing, leading with passion and bringing your true authentic self to work each and every day! #DEIC #CompassGroup #Teamwork #Salsa #HerenciaHispana Anthony Livoti Jack Silk Ross Dickmann Prinul Legere Dan Natterman Shannon W. I'm a believer in the economic principle of creative destruction. At the macro-economic level, things have to break in order for new things to happen. But on a human level it's always sad in the short-term that I have friends and former colleagues that are losing their jobs, and others who will likely have to pick up their work in the short-term. To those impacted, you have my sympathy, but I also am hopeful in that there will be new opportunities are ahead even if you find yourself outside of a place that felt like home for so many for so long. As Marriott goes into a new era, there are going to be some great people who find themselves without jobs. If I can help anyone recruiting with connecting people to talent from there, or if any of my displaced Marriott friends need connections just let me know. I may not have a solution but there is a network of people who care beyond if you have an active badge or not. The great thing about a hospitality company is people care about people. And as a person I've learned that hospitality matters the most when people are suffering. https://lnkd.in/ecN6FdZQ

Tomorrow is Election Day, and New York City SHRM is here to support you, your team, and your workplace. This important moment can create uncertainty within our communities, and as HR leaders, it’s essential that we facilitate discussions that honor diverse perspectives, ensuring all employees feel respected and heard. Here are five actionable strategies you can implement to cultivate a positive and inclusive environment: 1. 𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬: Establish clear guidelines for respectful communication. Consider introducing a “pause and reflect” rule, encouraging employees to take a moment before responding to foster thoughtful dialogue. 2. 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐬: Emphasize shared goals and values, such as teamwork and mutual respect. Remind employees that, despite differing viewpoints, everyone contributes to a unified workplace culture. 3. 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Promote an active listening approach by inviting team members to summarize or acknowledge the speaker’s points before sharing their own. This practice reduces misunderstandings and promotes empathy. 4. 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬: Designate specific times or virtual spaces for open dialogue on election-related topics. Make participation optional and ensure that discussions are moderated to maintain respect. 5. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬: Make sure employees are aware of emotional support resources, such as counseling or wellness programs, which can be particularly helpful for those feeling stressed or anxious. Thank you to all HR leaders who foster these values and guide respectful discussions during this time. NYC SHRM stands with you and supports your efforts to create a thriving and inclusive workplace.

For any position, for any job, a theory can be- every person in the world has done something for the very first time. An important realisation, if you ever feel ‚you are not ready‘. You have performed and demonstrated potential. With the right growth mindset, the willingness to learn, the trust in your abilities, plus guidance of those that put trust in you, then you will succeed. So, you are ready. #GoForIt. Thanks Naureen for the exchange on this podcast! (…. Staying true to my own beliefs: first time on a podcast for me 😉) #leadership #DEI #Growthmindset #CareerGrowth #WomenInHospitality
