However, the distinction between the two goes beyond just legal definitions—there are scientific differences as well. Legal Perspective: Legally, the main difference is the THC content. Hemp is defined as having 0.3% THC or less, which means it won’t produce psychoactive effects. Cannabis, or marijuana, typically has higher levels of THC, which can get you high. Scientific Perspective: From a scientific standpoint, the key differences are in their chemical composition and uses: THC Levels: As mentioned, hemp has very low THC levels (0.3% or less), while cannabis has higher THC levels, leading to its psychoactive effects. CBD Content: Hemp is often richer in CBD, a non-psychoactive compound with numerous health benefits. Cannabis also contains CBD but in varying amounts depending on the strain. Uses: Hemp is primarily used for industrial purposes (like fibers, seeds, and CBD extraction), whereas cannabis is cultivated for both medicinal and recreational use due to its higher THC content and diverse range of cannabinoids and terpenes. War on drugs is a war on people. Thanks to Gov. Newsom's emergency regulation, parents needing safe access to cbd for their kids are now criminals. Again. This is a massive step backwards. I do not support regulations like this at all. There were several other options that could have created a safer hemp market. Do I think we need to figure out the farm act so that it protects consumers? Yes. Do I think these products need age gates? Yes. Do I think these products should be tested by a reputable lab? Yes. Prohibition does not work. Do better.
